Bad Luck dude.

You should let Rob know - I believe that they have some procedures in place for stolen players, it might help, you never know (and no, I've no idea what they are, nor will rob tell anyone, rightly so).

How'd it happen?

Paul.

That really sucks...

Unfortunately I see a big risk in it being gutted for the
essentially anonymous disk(s), and the remainder getting tossed

Email or telephone Rob immediately with all the necessary information, including the player's serial number.

Sorry to hear about it.

For future reference, send this kind of information to [email protected] - they'll take care of it for you. I'd be happy to do it, but it will just add delay since I'm out of the country.

Most day to day customer service related issues are now handled by Daniel ([email protected]) since I switched job role to managing development scheduling. I'm happy to continue to be accessible to anyone for any reason, but you'll often get a faster result from Daniel, David or Andrew in customer services.

Actually, I doubt the butt-heads that swiped it are smart enough to know to look inside for the hard drive. I'd be impressed if they were smart enougth to apply +12V to it to see the reward logo (if you had one). If they did apply +12V, they would probably figure that it was cool enough to hold on to. I'm imagining the 2001 man-apes dancing around the 1x4x9 monolith. "I don't know what it is, but I can tell it's cool!"

Nobody would fence such an odd piece of equipment, but the best bet is to drop off a picture to local pawn shops and offer a no-questions-reward. That worked for a friend of mine whose rare gun was stolen. Given the legal sensitivity of that one, you should have better odds.

GOOD LUCK!

--"i have been to all the porn shops but they are not inerested"

We seem to have incompatible vernaculars. Below is what we mean in the USA. What do these words mean outback?

[fence] (verb) to sell stolen goods, (noun) a person who will buy stolen goods.

[pawn shop] (noun) a place where one can borrow against deposited collateral, e.g. jewelry or an empeg. In the USA pawn shops are often fences.

[porn shop] (noun) a place where one can purchase explicit sexual graphics . These places are rarely interested in the resale of stolen empegs.

In any case, I'm glad your insurance will cover some of your replacement cost. Sounds like a good time for a hard drive upgrade. It's still probably worth it to drop by whatever Aussies call pawn shops. GOOD LUCK!

I'm sorry. Over the weekend, I felt bad for teasing you about the "porn shop" (once those fingers type something a few thousands times they just fall into a groove, eh?) Oops, there I go again. Sorry. Really. Anyway I just logged in to apologize and saw muzza's crack about the "clam", which made me feel more guilty. I'm truly sorry for your loss and sincerely hope that you're able to recover your player or replace it with one of those nicely priced 12G Rio players. More RAM, twice the hard drive!

You should be able to order the 12G for US$1199 at the Rio site here.

Gidday: Unfortunately that Rio Site does not ship to Australia….
The EMPEG Store that used to ship overseas was closed all weekend with a big notice that says it will be back open Monday 12th only for accessory sales, it’s now Wednesday 14th I have checked it about 25 times, no joy, which is a bit sad for us in Australia as the dollar has dropped 2 cents since the store closed last week and has fallen daily to a bit of a sad all time low where if we could buy a 40 gig EMPEG will sting a bloke 4 thousand bucks + the 20% import duty
I wish there was some up to date news posts in the Announcements about what that Rio or EMPEG are up to, at least to keep us eager with something on the horizon and (God help me) stop us buying Neo’s. (like 5 times cheaper here)
It would be great to see some fresh official news as the saddest thing about checking the EMPEG site everyday is the blaring in your face Headline news of 30-October 2000, which is hardly keeping the customer base keen, up to date and well informed.

Sorry this was so sad.

By the way it’s “Cash Converters” here, not porn shops you funny Dillweed’s crack me up. ;-)

Forgot to say, Sorry to hear about your EMPEG Andrew,
I'll keep an eye out if it turns up here.
You could have driven all the way to the Alice and back without hearing the same sound twice I bet...

It's a bit of a sad thread really

We hope to have the Europe and International store open within then next two
months. Keep an eye on www.riohome.com and www.empeg.com

I'm afraid that the 12GB players were released as a US promotion to use up
our drive stocks. They will not be available on the UK store.

The entire empeg site will be replaced within the next few days. The product information will remain at the site - the reason for the change is to rebrand it "Rio Car" and bring it up to date.

I don't plan to bring the store back online until the rest of the site is ready - in any case we have no stock in the UK right now. Note that the new store will charge only in UK pounds and will service countries which are not covered by the SONICblue eStore. Only the car player and accessories will be available - we will not carry other Rio products.

Regards

Rob

Out of curiousity, who is doing the manufactruing now? Is it still the same contactor, or is it being made at a sonicblue facility somewhere?

The player is being made by the same contractor, but a Rio production team are now pulling the strings.

In fact the international store should be open within a week if all goes well, and the 12Gb players most likely will be available.

It seems we have pretty good communication between the US and UK offices, but communicating across two floors in our building is proving a little more difficult I've got a meeting tomorrow morning to bring the customer service team leader up to date on this type of thing, so that should end the confusion.

Regards

Rob

Gidday,
The Aussie dollar plunges further to .49 putting the EMPEG out of the reach of more and more Aussie's, while the store just stays closed....
Hey Butts, Will your Insurance pay that much?
GEEEEzUS... I could have afforded it last week..
To make it worst my Sheila is fast spending what's left of the EMPEG money.
