I live in the boston area and I have an MKIIa with two 30 gb drives
Aside from a few add-on apps, it's a stock unit.
My computer skills are pretty good,
but I only speak linux as a second language
and when it comes to major uipgrades,
I know I should leave that to the more experienced and paid professional.

I would like to upgrade the hard drives in my empeg.
Also, I think I've heard of people upgrading the RAM as well?
Would anyone be interested in performing these upgrades on my empeg?
For money, of course.
Preferrably someone in the northeast (US) area.

Lemme know.
thanks

I have no problems upgrading your drives. I'm in NY, so if you don't mind shipping your empeg, send it on over.

I think Ian (Genixia) is in the Boston area and did memory upgrades at the empeg meet. You might want to try sending him a PM.

It is very likely that you can upgrade the hard drives yourself. Tony's excellent FAQ on how to do it takes you step by step and is so clearly written that even I was able to do it. I just upgraded SWMBO's empeg to 80 GB a couple days ago.

Unless you are running third-party apps on your player, there doesn't seem to be much need to upgrade the memory -- performance advantages in the music playing area are slim to none, and indeed, some people have run into problems with too much RAM.
