Does anyone know of any way to check WHAT is using a COM port? Just recently, I've had Alpha11 crash while doing changes through emplode. It seems I need to either upload music or change tags because emplode 2.00 and alpha11 don't like me doing either...

Well anyway, because of the crashes, now emplode wants to do disk integrety checks on each connection but crashes on the database rebuild (even though, on a boot up, the player rebuilds the database with no problems..).

Okay, this is an alpha, I can deal. But what's killing me is that now I can't connect with HyperTerminal or TeraTermPro. COM1 is unavailable with Hyperterminal and I get nothing happening with TeraTerm.

Reboots don't help.

Does anyone have any idea how I can check to see if another program is taking the port? I'm kind of at a loss... nothing has changed in my setup. I've check the cable, rebooted the PC, etc.

Using WinXP.

Thanks Bitt. Using it now and reading up on the program.

Just as an update, it's odd that I can't use COM1 for monitoring the empeg, but I can use it to apply the upgrade (just reinstalled 3.00a11) and HiJack.

Checking with 2nd empeg now...

Question: Do you have hijack loaded, and if so what revision? I know that there was some modification to the way serial ports were handled with the latest hijacks, but I do not know the specifics off hand.

v444.

It may have been a loose connector on the motherboard (?!?!) for the COM port or a combination of reboots that took care of it... if it acts up again, I'll post.

Yes, Hijack changed and now you must alter one of its settings before you can get a shell prompt.

The specifics of what you have to do in Hijack have been added to the hypterterminal FAQ.

This behavior is consistent with what's expected, ever since hijack version 444.

No, it's just that when you load download, it has the ability to either let the application (the player software) or a background application use the serial port, instead of only the player. The default setting on first install is background app. If you want to retain the original behaviour, you have to go into HiJack and set it - it's nothing to do with A11.
