Hi everyone. I know this is probably a better question for the VW boards, but several people have asked this question and NOBODY is responding...

If I get the Jetta, it will most likely have the Monsoon (not much of an "option because they ALL seem to have it). I would like to replace the HU and run the empeg into the Monsoon amp. Is this going to be possible? Then, I could somehow splice off of that, and use the amp I currently have to run a sub. (Does the monsoon already have a sub?)

Have you already asked Crutchfield?

search the archives, my monsoon+empeg story is in there..

short answer.. no.. the monsoon amp does not like the empeg, there is no remote amp power on the monsoon amp.. it's on as long as the key is on.

btw.. I love my jetta, the empeg runs great in it. running it as a stand alone is the best thing.

Perhaps not the right solution for you, but for me...

I knew I would replace the HU but wanted to have a working stereo at all times, so I bought a Kenwood HU and plug the Empeg into its line-in (installed in the 2nd DIN space). I'm happy with the setup; I get to keep my Monsoon amp and can leave my Empeg at home (or office) if I like. Tradeoff: I lose Empeg's parametric EQ and I can't connect a subwoofer (Monsoon doesn't have a connector) -- but I'm quite happy with the sound quality, and the install was painless.

Oh yeah, and 2-HU lighting is fantabulous at night...

I've got a 2000 Jetta GLS with the Monsoon sound system, I kept everything and fed it through the empeg. I added another amp just for the empeg and the necessary parts to pass the Monsoon deck through the empeg. AM/FM, Tape, and my CD changer all work perfectly. Of course, without the empeg in the car, I can't use anything, but I never leave home without the empeg, so it's not a big deal. The sound quality is great, and I didn't lose any of the empeg's features.

FYI: I've added a VW logo to the Empeg Logo page.
