So it appears my Karma has spun its last track, it locks up quite regularly with the click of death. But it seems this time I wasn't quick enough with the paper clip and now the player gets stuck on bootup with some rather scary noises coming from the drive. Can anyone recommend a suitable place to buy a replacement drive for it?

Anyone?

You could monitor ebay. My friend's Karma drive recently died and he was bidding on this auction. It ended for only $26.

You've tried the smack, right?

So at this point, does it make any sense to put a flash drive in it?

Methinks the smack might've been the final nail in the coffin. It's worked before, but not this time.

I have one that the smack didn't work with either. I've heard that some people have better luck putting a converter on it and putting it into a desktop computer. I haven't tried that yet.

Mine did so around Christmas time, but in a rather different way: A large black smudge across the screen, it'll still play, but won't connect to RioManager via USB or network, so it's about as much use as the proverbial chocolate teapot!

Having not touched mine since Christmas, I connected it by USB and RioManager found it, but now it won't switch on.

Andy, If you're up for Cris's suggestion, I can bring it across on my way back from Wales, tuesday week: It's no use to me anymore.

Sounds like a plan. PM me and we'll sort something out.

After my trip to the smoke I've realised that SWMBO's Ipod is no match for a Karma.

Yea, the iPod's look really nice, and you can get loads of add ons for them, but I love the interface on the Karma, strangely everything is just where I would have put it. In my opinion a music player can be as pretty as it likes but if it's a bit rubbish at playing back my music, what's the point?

Cheers

It's alive!!!!!

Godfrey dropped his dead Karma off this afternoon and I put its HD in my player. Result, one working Karma and one completely buggered Karma.

I'm looking forward to listening to all the radio shows I've found on the HD. Thanks a million Godfrey! I really do owe you one!

The only problem i've found is that I seem to have damaged the lock switch on the side. Any chance of one of the empeggers letting me know where I can get another one?

Can't you use the switch of the buggered one? What do you think happened to cause that black smudge on the screen, it looks like heat has caused it in some way?

I think you'll find my entire collection of talking books, transcribed from cassette, some radio7 programmes that I put on for a train journey, the day before it packed up and a rather middle of the road collection of music, but you're welcome to them!

Of course, if anybody can use a spare dock, you can have it for free.

It's a crack in the screen, maybe it got sat/trodden on?

I can't be precise on any particular occurrence between leaving the Midland Hotel and being woken by the guard of the Trans Pennine Express, on the occasion of my retirement do: However I'm glad to say that the £30 bottle of single malt and the jeroboam of claret (It's a very good year, I seem to recall a wine bore saying) seem to have survived rather better than the Karma!

I'll check at the office tomorrow, but I think I gave that whole board of my "spare parts" Karma to JeffS when his scroll wheel quit working.

Yes Please! I could really do with the PSU, you wouldn't happen to have that too?

You are on, in both instances: However, there is a price - my PC lost the plot at some point on Saturday night. Everything is slow to non working, I've tried a system restore and all sorts, and I was just thinking that I could do with someone mu/ch more computer literate than I, any chance of you popping round?

Ah! Identified the problem on the PC and sorted it, however come round anytime for the dock and PSU, or we could meet halfway, I'm off for a fortnight from friday.
