I know that feeling a webmaster can get to find content as quick as possible, but this is ridiculous! Prepare to laugh!

Here is the page for more worthwhile stuff... (is this legal?) http://www.gutenberg.org

Apostrophe, apostrophe!!

Finally, a use for my Download them All! plugin. Tomorrow's ride in will be with Mr. Twain.

Did you listen to any of them ? The Mark Twain audio books available appear to all be computer generated (computer read)

Yes. Project Gutenberg is a fairly well known project and it is all legal.

Using a download manager to recursively suck down large amounts of content is probably not going to be welcomed however...

Another one. This one has human readers, but for the better quality versions you need to subscribe.

I tried to listen(and gave up, sadly). I was hoping they'd be better quality text to speech. C'est la vie! It's still a great resource. E-books were probably the best use I ever made from my Ipaq.

tman- I used it for one Twain book's worth of mp3 and they filled my 6400kb/sec cable connection solid. They seem well-mirrored to boot (five options for my selection).

I am digging up this thread because I found another site with free audio versions of books in public domain. These are read by humans.

Listening to the beginning of a few chapters makes you realise just how good the professionals that are used for commercial audio books are. I don't think I could listen to any of the Librivox books I have sampled all the way through, the quality of the reading and the voices of the people reading are just not up to it.

Which is a shame given the massive amount of effort that they have obviously put into it.

I don't know the one I listened to was pretty good. It was the secret garden (ya stop laughing). The woman who read it was a teacher of some kind so maybe that makes a difference.
