When driving, the empeg has lately started cutting out. When I glance down its still active and playing and when the audio cuts back in its where it would have been - so its simply a lack of sound reaching the speakers.

It lasts anywhere from 3 - 15 seconds at a time. Maybe 4 times in a 30 minute drive. I've tried getting it to happen when stationary but it won't do it so I'm thinking perhaps theres a loose wire on the sled? If so, which one would be the culprit? Would a bad IDE header cause this?

Any ideas?

On another note my hard drive is making some really rough noises occassionally. Is this a separate issue?

Its a non-modded Rio-branded Mk2a running 2.00final and an old Hijack version (328?).

Two likely culprits:

Docking connector wiring problem, or overheating/faulty amplifier.

When mine was cutting in and out it turned out to be a bad connector on the amp causing it to ground out. The sound eventually quit altogether before it was found.

It actually behaved itself since I last posted but today when I pulled into the driveway it cut out again. I managed to open the boot and take a look at the amp - it wasn't getting power. I think the problem may a loose 'remote amp power' wire on the sled thats causing the amp to flicker on and off. I'll investigate this tomorrow. All other wires to the amp (power, speakers, RCA) are solid.
