I finally figured out that when my empeg "crashes", it's really stuck in auxiliary mode. It won't respond to inputs from the fascia, but if I use my remote and click on source repeatedly during startup sometimes I can get it to switch to player mode, before I accidentally hit source again and keep it stuck in aux. If I hold down the menu button I can get hijack to come up so I know the unit isn't crashed. is there anyway I can unstick it from aux mode without trying to tap source repeatedly during bootup, reboot, try again, until I get it?

Hey,

You need details - software version and hijack version for a start. If you are running a Hijack version pre-v455, I'd recommend you upgrade. Any disk/memory upgrades, tuner, car kit and stuff should also be noted.

Does it do this at home and in the car, or just in the car, or just at home?

Running 2.0 software, developer edition. Hijack was the latest one I found on the website. Do you think it's Hijack that's doing it? This only happens at home because I no longer have a car but there is an extra 40GB hard drive in there and the unit used to have a tuner that is no longer connected.

Specifically, which *version* of Hijack does the unit report at boot time (or after playing the "breakout game") ?

Possibly. Upgrade to v459 and try again.

(symptoms look like a dead cs4231a chip, but since you're not giving us enough info to help you, well..)

I got it. You need the boot log... Will post it tonight.

I was able to use some remote control wizadry and got it into player mode again. But if I hit AUX again, i'm screwed.

Errr.... don't hit AUX, then? Seriously, without a boot log it tells us nothing.

Peachy. And *do* install the current version of Hijack beforehand.

Cheers!

Will do. while we're at it, i've also noticed my rio car turns on automatically all the time on ac power. you power it off and half an hour later, it's up and running again playing music. sucks when you leave the house.

That might be related to this or this.
