Does Jemplode work via USB? Can't remember. I know it will work via ethernet, though.

Good point, I missed that bit. I'm not sure whether it will work over USB either, but hey its worth a shot :-D

Not sure if the USB connection you're talking about is at the Central or at the computer. If you're talking about the one on the Central, then this Linksys USB/Ethernet adapter will work just fine to tie it to your network for file downloading with JEmplode.

I tried jemplode and could not get USB to be recognized at all, even placing the jemplode.dll (for USB) into either of the two recommended locations.

I guess I'm still not sure of what connections you're referring to...Are you saying that you're trying to connect a USB cable from your computer directly to the Central's USB connector?

I'm pretty sure that's what he's doing, yes.

Thrasher and Laserfan, you can do it if you use ethernet and/or HPNA.

I dunno how hard it is to pop the drive out of a Central (haven't tried it YET) but you could then attach it to a Windows machine and use Explore 2fs to get the files too.

Yes, but the files aren't stored in easy to see file names. They are stored as FIDs. Significant postprocessing would be needed. Especially considering that CDs ripped by the Central don't get the MP3 files themselves tagged (only the secondary fid stores tag info).

Centrals don't use ext2fs on the music partition, they use ReiserFS. And it's such an old version of ReiserFS that I don't even know whether modern Linux can mount it.

Omigosh; FIDs, Reiser... no wonder the Central hasn't been hacked. Maybe I will try making an image backup with Acronis TrueImage just to see if it works.
