I'm looking for some EXIF tools (or just one tool) for either just viewing the EXIF data for a bunch of files at once, or also doing some batch editing. For example, I've had my new camera for a month, and for some reason the month was incorrect on it. But I don't know how to go through and edit all the data.

*edit*
Oh, and free. Yeah, that would be nice

I was going to recommend ADCSee (www.acdsystems.com) , but that's not free. Maybe they still have a free version (5.0?). Current v. 8.0 is good, imho, and faster than previous 7 and 6, which ended up being terribly slow due to the local dbase management they used.

Irfanview

Freeware (for non-commercial use).
Needs a plugin for EXIF data.
Small, fast, does basic editing/resizing etc.
Never crashes.

Hmmm.... I now see you mentioned the word "batch"... That it does not seem capable of... Sorry

Well, the exiftools package for Linux is free and works great in "batch" mode.

Cheers

The website does mention Batch Processing.

Probably a good time to look at the manual (if there is one?). The real killer question though is if the Batch Processing Macro can include actions from a Plugin (seeing as the Exif functionality is a Plugin).

Personally, I would use a Perl Script to do that kind of thing in a batch. I'm sure a bit of Googling would find some Exif tag editing scripts about which you may be able to modify into something useful. Of course you may need to know a bit of Perl to start with.

Thanks, I'll give Irfanview a look. I've used it quite a bit in the past to do batch resizing for the web, but I'll see if it can do as much for EXIF data.

For Windows I used to use a program called "Exifer" - I'm not sure if it's still maintained.

I also just found Exif Tool (done in perl) which sounds pretty complete: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ (you'll need to install perl but there's a link for a Windows distribution on the page).
