Mrs.Boxer has a 15 month old Sony vaio, one of the things that doubles as a television, yesterday, I think the PSU packed in, Sony tell us that they would charge a standard £447 to look at it!
They'll never sell me anything again.
I wonder if it's repairable by an ordinary PC outfit?

My little brother had a similar experience with his Sony 60" plasma, appalling experience of Sony CS.

I've just sent them a message, to say that I've posted this information on a site read by IT professionals worldwide and that it's the last time they'll sell me anything.

If you end up stuck and need a quick fix, then Maplin L23AY (£25, half price) works fine on three different Vaio laptops we have here. It is also sold as the Trust PW-1350p.

edit: £447 is rather steep! I did warn my boss that the Vaio support was reported as being dodgy (all has to go to Belgium?), although I admit they do look very nice.

I was just putting the two fingers to work to start a thread on a spec. asking for suggestions for the particular needs of Mrs. Boxer's new PC, and rather relishing the project, when the guy at the support people I used at my old firm returned my call: "Yea, I know the things....what the hell did you buy one of those for....Sony, f***ing ripoffs....if it's the PSU, I think it's bog standard....bring it in Monday....yea, twist me arm, it's a freebie", so with crossed fingers and a following wind, I may be out of trouble and not out of pocket!

It actually functions as a desk top and has an internal PSU, yea, everything goes to Belgium, we had to send it back under warranty and they still stung us for £100, claiming we had spilt something on it, which we denied, but what can you prove?
