In line with the 'other' bbs, shouldn't the empeg BBS become the 'riocar BBS'?
(Still 'unofficial' of course).

I dunno what do people think - its poll time:
The host name of the server would not change as this
would cause too many probelms.

Perhaps adding the "RioCar" name to the board rather than changing it would be good?

I personally don't like to think about the Rio car since I own an Empeg but maybe something more exciting the current title would be a change.
(no suggestion in my head right now though).....

Why change *anything*? I find this the most rewarding BBS in the entire internet galaxy. No need to change, I think.

Well, you could change it to "Empeg Car BBS"...
1. The the Mk 1- Mk 2 product was properly named the Empeg Car, so Empeg owners should still feel right at home.
2. Rio Car owners could take pride in the fact that their acquisition-borne product is represented in the second half of the BBS's new, compound name.

Don't get me wrong Henno, I think this is the most important resource I could ever hope for in terms of making the most out of my player and everyone here is just great! I just thought that the title could use a tweak Technoweenie

I think you're all forgetting something, though.
Last time I checked, the address was empeg.comms.net
There's that, the fact that I own an empeg, and "Unofficial empeg RioCar BBS" sounds pretty bad. DiGNAN

Don't get me wrong
No, I don't think I did; feel no offence whatsover. I believe virtually all regulars here appreciate the quality of this community. But, as Wire said in an earlier posting: 'Why fix it, when it ain't broken? ;-) '
By tweaking the name, we risk making the site so visible that the community may fall apart. But may be I'm just too pessimistic. Remember the discussion we had when the Mk2 was announced. Many if us original Mk1 owners then feared that another 1000 owners could well swamp the community, but they didn't .
I'm glad though, that a separate Rio board is up now . . . .

The reason that I brought this up, was that the empeg car is no more - we may still own them but you can't buy a new 'Empeg Car', but you can buy a 'Rio Car'.
The name for the product has changed, and we should change with it.
I don't see anything to be pessamistic about.
The RioReceiver board is for the RioReceiver - not just for Rio Products.
More people on the board, should make this a better place, not necessarily worse.
I think that we should be encouraging, intelligent sensible posting - this should get better with more people.
Just my £0.02

Empeg's still the unofficial name for this product (right guys?) and this IS an unofficial BBS - so I don't really see a problem..

why not make a new BBS for the riocar? This way the old members can do nostalgic chats about the good ol' times on the empeg-BBS, and new owners can ...???

No problem - just thought it would be an interesting discussion.
I just thought that it'd be more helpful for people who didn't know about empeg - i.e. purchasers of the RioCar...

Personally, I don't really like the fact that empeg doesn't even technically exist anymore. Why didn't Rio just bring them on as the "empeg team" or something. It's not that hard, they're pretty self-contatined!
If they had done that, they could link the BBS from their official site without buyers getting too confused.
Regardless, if someone surfing the Rio site were to be told that they can go to "the empeg BBS to ask questions about the RioCar", I don't think it would be that confusing. At that point, the term "empeg" in the title becomes more of a name than a description.

I thought so too at one point, but I've heard Rob make several statements like "when we were empeg" and such. I know at one point they called themselves the empeg team or something, but I don't think that was a formal title. DiGNAN

Technically we're still employed by empeg Ltd, which is wholey owned by SONICblue Inc. In practice empeg is a name that will rarely be seen in future, other than in a historic context. We're now a Rio development team.
Rio will be replacing the web site soon, and at that time I will give some attention to the empeg geek site - which will live on - and add some more content to it. The geek site is not, and will not be, an official communication channel and neither will it receive Rio branding.
