Last weekend I took part in the Pendle Pedal - a 100km timed ride in the Lancashire countryside. It was a fantastic day, the weather was good and there were constant big hills to deal with to make it very challenging. It was hard work and really found my limits on some of the long steep climbs, but it was still fun and I'll definately do it next year. I'm sure I can beat my rather poor time

Anyway, there was a lovely sweeping downhill where I managed 44MPH. I'm sure it can be beat by someone here.

Btw, anyone planning on cycling up and down hills for 5 hours needs to know that it will destroy a set of brake pads in one ride!

Doesn't count unless you have the empeg mounted on your bike.

Doug?

Tuesday... 47.6 MPH on a mountain bike with knobbies.

It was the fastest I have ever gotten the bike. Guess that extra weight I'm trying to get rid of helped out.

Yup, 47 is fast on a bike with knobbly tyres! I really want to have another go now but there are no really big hills around me where I can pick up enough speed. Sucks.

Yeah, I did have a good hill to my advantage. I was coming down the road in one of the canyons here (part of the Rocky Mountains), after hitting a beautiful single track trail. The trail ended just before the bottom of the canyon, but it doesn't take a long hill to get that fast. It may suck for you that you don't have hills where you can get that fast going down, but remember most of our trails go up first!

That's what chair lifts are for.

Hmmm... My empeg is on my recumbent, which despite appearances isn't as fast downhill as a regular road bike. The problem is that onthe recumbent, I am restricted to one riding position, there is no way to tuck yourself down uncomfortably but aerodynically.

Coming down off of Cleary Summit, my regular road bike will hit about 48 MPH, but the recumbent will only hit about 39.

That's insane. I hit 30 last weekend, which is a record for me, and all I could think about was how completely screwed I would be if I wiped out at that speed.

So, does a pic of this empeg mounting exist?

Nice! thanks for sharing! there's a recumbent in my future, and, more critically, no car in my future, so i was curious.
