Any better for memory leakage?

Also I've just upgraded and seem to have lost my session history, more than a little annoying, I had 43 tabs open.

I don't know about the memory leakage problem, but I'm liking the upgrade so far. I haven't at work yet, but only because I'm waiting to find solutions to some UI problems I see. They made the Go button unmovable and changed that little X that I use all the time to close tabs. Small issues, to be sure, but annoying.

But I like the spell checker for text boxes. That's a fantastic feature.

Type about:config in the address bar. Change browser.tabs.closeButtons to the value you want:
  • 0 - Display close button only on the active tab
  • 1 - Display close buttons on every tabs
  • 2 - Never display close buttons
  • 3 - Display single close button at the end of the tab strip (The way it used to be)
Personally, I use Ctrl-F4.

Anyway to get the tabs to display in multiple rows rather than scrolling through them?

I think there was a Firefox 1.5 plugin that could do it... Tab Mix Plus, maybe?

Anyhow, you can get a bit more mileage from the number of tabs in your window before the scrolling sets in from the browser.tabs.tabMinWidth variable. Default is 100. I like 75. 0 will turn off scrolling.

Yeah it was TabMixPlus, no v2 compatibility yet. Have set my tabwidth to 75, thanks

Thanks for the tip, I'll change that setting. Apparently they know about the immobility of the Go button too and are working on that.

Works just fine if you "force version" on it. Install "Mr Tech" utilities first to get that option.

Thanks, I've installed Mr Tech Local Install, is that what you mean? Can't see an option for force version

If you just want to get rid of it, like I did, you can edit your userChrome.css file.

It just "appears" whenever I try to install a pre-v2 extension.. the little dialog popup has a checkbox to override version checking.

Cheers

Oh no, I want the opposite. I want it to be more accessible. My toolbar is set up as such (on 1.x):

Back, Forward, Refrech, Stop, Home, Search Box, Go, Address bar. By default, Firefox is set up to have the search and Go buttons on the far right, and they expand with the window. This becomes a problem when viewing it on a large monitor (I would have the back button and the search box over 2400 pixels apart at home). In 1.x, I can move the search box and Go button. I can't move the Go button in 2.

Out of curiosity, what do you use the go button for?

Maybe I need to uninstall the extension and re-install. Will try it.

To be honest, at the moment I can't think what I use it for, but I swear I use it quite often. Often enough for me to notice if it's on the right-hand side or not... Wow, I think I'm losing my mind. Maybe it's the lack of sleep...

Well, got TabMix installed but it wasn't working at all well so I've uninstalled it. It's a killer not having session history.

I was going to say that the only thing that I can think of that I'd ever use it for is after pasting a URL into the location bar. But I'd press Ctrl-V for that under Windows, so hands already on the keyboard, thus, Enter. Maybe for pasting a URL under Unix, since that's usually a mouse operation, but then I'd just paste into the browser window directly and not bother with the location bar at all.

Pasting URLs is one thing, but my hand is never on the keyboard when I'm doing that. Usually I've selected the text with the mouse, so I'm copying with the keyboard, putting the cursor in the address bar with the mouse, pasting with the keyboard, and hitting Go with the mouse.

Although sometimes I'll be holding the mouse and I'll reach over to the Enter key on the numpad with my thumb...

I don't know, but I went right back to the previous setting for minimum tab width. All I want is the site icon visible. My tabs don't scroll any more, and it's so much better.

After 4 days use I now know that 2.0 suffers from the same old problem that I had with 1.5 and before.

After the Firefox process is running (sometimes hours, more often days) the same thing always happens. What appears to be a blank toolbar, which you can't interact with, appears below the window title bar. At the same time, some web pages are rendered as if the screen around 2000 pixels wide.

To restore the normal functionality you have to close all the Firefox windows and reopen.

It happens on both the Windows boxes that I use regularly. This evening is the first time it has happened to me on 2.0

Here is an example of it happening on 2.0:

http://www.norman.cx/photos/links/firefox.png

When you make Firefox fullscreen it looks like this:

http://www.norman.cx/photos/links/firefox_full.png

I have tried to look through the Firefox bug lists to see if it a know issue, but it is difficult to know exactly what to search on (or even which area of the app has the bug).

In the same vein, I'm really missing Tabbrowser Extension, and I doubt it will be updated for v2.0. I know it was a bit buggy, but I really miss having a vertical tab bar on the right with color-coded tab groupings.

I have never seen that before. Sounds like an interaction problem with something else you've got installed on those systems.

I don't really have anything exotic running on these systems. I only have a handful of extensions that are common between the two (Adblock, Google toolbar, IE Tab).

I was suggesting something external to FireFox, like some other application that modifies a Windows DLL or something.
