So I get up this morning to find several deep scratches and a dent in the top of my new Mac. I was using said machine less than 8 hours before. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone...... okay I am........ but the reason I'm posting this is does anyone know wether you can buy a replacement shell for it?

The Vaio I'm typing this on has a few biffs and scratches on the lid, and while I can only imagine the consternation they must have caused its previous owner (Hugo), I rather like the impression they give of being a seasoned traveller, of having been "in the wars a bit".

Caused by the cat or the woman?

While I can understand why you're annoyed, remember that its a tool to serve you and not the other way around. Its meant to be used. Its meant to get scratched and marked. I bet you'll not care about any new scratch that appears on it from now on.

I know someone who never takes their new toys out the house in case they get a scratch. Whats the point? Don't get me started on leather cases for mobile phones

Dunno about that but I've only dropped my Karma once since I got a leather case, was a regular occurrence before that.

My Vaio's got a massive divot in the top, where it lost a fight with my empeg (they were in the same bag, but neither had a case on it).

I stuck a Whistler/Blackcomb sticker over the top.

It turns out it's only £35 plus labour to get the local Apple shop to fix it while I wait. So I'm taking it in tomorrow so they can get the right bits ordered.

Also, I've found a company that makes clear polycarbonate shells for the MacBooks, so I've ordered one. They look pretty nice.

EDIT: Should point out the my old iBook has loads of scratches all over it, but it is over 2 years old. It's the fact I've only had it a week is the thing annoys me the most, followed closely by the fact I don't what (or who) did it. Having a metal finish was the thing that nearly put me off buying one.

I know of a chap who purchased clear floor mats to cover the logo'ed floor mats that came with his truck.
