Herro

When I start my EMPEG it is freezing at the point when it should begin playing the music. I cannot unfreeze it and the USB and LAN sockets are not functioning.
I have taken this log from the serial port. I can see it is not getting me to the command prompt before it freezes. It continues to echo characters to the screen but they have no effect.

Can you clever chaps tell me how to fix it please? I have searched the FAQs.

Cheers.
SW is V3.11. Audio was a .OGG.

As Mark said, ctrl-C or ctrl-break at some point during the boot sequence will drop it to the shell prompt before it tries to play the bad track.

The one you're looking for, and the thing that Mark is suspecting (and I am too) is this problem.

See if that fixes it for you.

Been a while since 'I read an empeg boot log, but I believe you've got the consumer version of the software loaded on the player - it doesn't provide a shell. Load the 'developer' version instead and try again!

Which you can find at the Latest Software link at the top of the page. I'd recommend the v2.00 developer edition if you have an unmodified empeg.

You definitely have the consumer version of the firmware installed. You can't fix the problem unless you install the developer version of the firmware.

Remember above, where I said...

Quote:

... Well, that link I gave is very specific on that point: you need the developer firmware installed to fix it. Please follow the steps at that link carefully.

Tony, you might want to correct the "Hypterterminal" typo at that link.

What also should help is hitting the "forward" button during the boot process repeatedly until it skips the song that locks up the player. I had the same problem recently and it worked for me.

Yeah. Happens to me about once a month. I've learned how to skip it on bootup so it's not a big deal any more.

My Empeg also locks up when displaying the birth days.

I'm running v3.00 A11.

Reasonably well - though it sucks still not being allowed to drive...
