I wanted to buy another colour screen as a spare / for a change, but where do you go to get them these days? The Rio site doesn't seem to offer alternative screens.

Currently, the accessories store is "off line". It will be back up soon.

Where have you been, by the way? Haven't heard much about your custom installation.

Hi Tony!

Where have you been, by the way? Haven't heard much about your custom installation.

I'm working on a web site to explain all! It's been a long and interesting experience, and basically now the car is just awaiting the return of it's dashboard. (It was sent away to be retrimmed and should've been back from my supplier in February... don't get me started!!).

Anyway... In the meantime we figured out some interesting solutions: fitting a 6-channel Mac in the boot of an MGB, with room left for spare wheel, tool kit and shopping! Inside, every panel has been Dynamat-ed, and the audio wiring has all been beautifully and painstakingly fiitted underneath the car, shrouded in heatproof exhaust wrap... try getting that done at your local audio install place.

It's all taken waaaaay longer than I'd hoped, but at least it's all been done right... I'm praying that it's gonna be ready for mid-May 'cos the annual London to Brighton MG run lands on my birthday this year, and that would be a very cool way to spend the day - blasting through the countryside with the top down and the empeg up!

WOW. I've never heard of anyone doing that. Why was internal wiring not an option?

(I do not question, merely ask enlightenment.)

The thickness of the cables (4 guage) would have made them bulky and evident under the carpet. These cars aren't made with the sort of cavaties that modern/bigger cars are, so there's no way to get stuff behind door trim, etc. Plus, when the carpet is down, that's pretty much down for good, 'cos it's glued (fits better - no movement).
I guess we could have run cables under the carpet along the transmission tunnel usually, but the V8 exhaust runs up by there and it gets very hot! Also, this way it's a pretty easy job to run extra cables or repair stuff - just jack up the car and feed the new stuff through. The result? Everything looks stealth. The kickpanel speaker grills have been resprayed to match the leather (light stone beige), so they're pretty much invisible - or at least no one can see they're Hex's. (We found a company that makes spray paint to cover plastic/vinyl that matches your leather - you send them a sample and they make you a few cans. It's been a god send around the dash area!)
Bet you're sorry you asked! ; )

No, I'm actually fascinated. This sounds like it'll be a poster-child installation when it's done. You must give us pictures.
