I bought a cheapo solid state video player to replace the last in a long line of cheap DVD players that currently feed a plasma in one of our studios. I was originally going to use a CF card but the design of the casing makes it protrude too far out the case. An SD card however fits perfectly. So i bought a 2gb card.... Can i write to it with any of my card readers? Can i buggery! A scan of the web reveals anything over 2gb is actually an SDHC card. None of the local shops stock a suitable reader. Can anyone recommend a suitable device available in the UK?

I'll point out that the player recognises card and reports the correct size albeit empty.

As I understand it, there are some hacks to allow SD cards to appear to be bigger by tweaking block size or something like that. However, that means that they are flouting the standard. SDHC specifically allows sizes greater than 2GB, but that doesn't mean that your card is an SDHC card. More likely it's one of the not-quite-SD cards.

That said, I just got the SanDisk ImageMate 5-in-1 reader (link likely to break, since they managed to misspell their own company name in the URL and in the description) that claims to support SDHC. It seems reasonably fast for the cards I've tried it with, although I'm not really an expert on such things.

There are standard SD cards up to 4GB. Most SDHC cards start at 4GB as well.

I have a 4GB SD card, but it suddenly stopped working in my digital camera after a couple months, so I don't trust them.

I recall asking that very same question a few weeks ago. There was some more information in that thread, too... anyone got a link?
