What does the plug look like on these things? (asks the new iPhone user who unfortunately has to check stuff like that out now)

Ah, understand your problem now, apple made the hole too small. Here it says the X3's plug is too big: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=248437&highlight=iphone

Bloody hell, I hate to think what you'd have to look like to get those white ones to fit...

I purchased a set of these for my wife, who'd been complaining that the Sennheisers that came with my Karma were uncomfortable. They arrived in a little over a week. Everything was well packaged. They came with a semi-rigid soft case, an airline adapter, a rubber spacer thing which has some unknown function, and small, medium and large rubber tips for the earbuds.
The sound difference is huge. I've never had an expensive set of earbuds, so I don't have a whole lot to compare to, but these put the aforementioned Sennheisers and my $20 Sony earbuds to shame. I've never gotten bass like this out of an earbud before. I'm definitely satisfied with the purchase.
Not having listened to any other highend earbuds, I can't tell you where they rank...only that they sound great to my ears.

Please be more specific regarding the exact model of $20.00 sony earbuds you are comparing them to? Were they the MDR-EX70LP units?
I'm trying to decide whether to pull the trigger on a pair of these. If they put the MDR-EX70LP's to shame, then I want them RIGHT NOW.
But if you're comparing them to a different model of Sony earbud, then I'm not so sure, and would want to deliberate more before purchasing.

Nope. They are MDR-E829V's. Looks like I got screwed on the price, but I bought them quite a while ago. Maybe the price has dropped since then. EDIT: The ones I got look like the ones in the upper right corner of the picture.

Ah, OK gotcha. Thanks for the link to the image.
Those are more like standard earbuds. I'd expect any gasket-sealer earbud to outperform those.
Since my Sonys are also gasket-seal design like the new headphones being described in this thread (in fact they look almost identical externally), I'd expect them to perform similarly.

Are the "gaskets" foam or rubber? They look foamy in the picture.

I got them yesterday, they sound great yes. Although they do sound a little less 'spatial' then my sennheiser hd477. Less seperation, is that what that's called?

Any news on that amp they're working on? I find that pretty interesting.
I'm riding mass transit now, and big, bulky headphones aren't great for a 35 minute subway ride and twenty minutes of walking. I'm currently using the crappy headphones that came with a cheap Sandisk flash player I got off Woot. I'm definitely thinking about an upgrade.

It doesn't look like it is anything special. The circuit and opamp used are pretty standard and you should be able to find equivalent kits locally or build your own from scratch.
