Ok this morning I got the dreaded NO Hard Disk Found. A little history on the player. I bought the player off ebay less then a year ago. I upgraded to v3.01 and Hijack. I recently had started getting some fault errors and would every now and then get a No Hard Disk Found. A simple reboot would clear the problem. However this morning it does not seem to be going away. Last night the player took a little fall, about a foot off the bar on to the counter, but landed hard on it's side. This morning was the first time to power it up since the fall. I tried to do an "upgrade" and put v2.01 back on but that failed. I was able to put Hijack back on though through the logo editor. I can hear the drive spinning.

Before I opended it up I wanted to get your guys input on what to look for first, second, third, etc...

Bot log after putting Hijack back on.

The classic ones are (a) shock has pulled IDE cable off drive or motherboard pinheader (plug it back in), and/or (b) shock has pulled motherboard IDE pinheader off its solder joints (resoldering job, consult a skilled repairer). It turns out that some units are unusually susceptible to failure mode (b) as not enough solder was used on those connectors when they were originally made.

Thanks! Well I kind of got a little curious so I opened it up. I disconnected the IDE cable at both the hard drive and mother board. Powered it back up and it booted up. I inspected the IDE header on the mother board and it looked ok, looked like a few of the pins could use a little more solder, but did not see anything obvious. Anyway since it seems to be booting up as of now I am going to wait and see if the problem comes back. If it does I will touch up the IDE header pins.

So looks like for now my player is back up and running.

You might also want to look at the crimping of the connectors on the IDE cable itself as this has been known to cause intermittent problems.

Cheers, Sim

Yea I am planning on getting a light kit for my buttons at some point from Eutronix, will probably be Christmas present from the wife. I will order a couple of extra IDE cables then also as the more I read the more the problem sounds like the IDE header and/or cable.

Having to touch up a couple solder joints or replacing the cable is nothing. I am just glad it is not something major.

Just be sure you do it properly!
