£99 for a years access to non DRM mp3s which you can download and keep seems a good deal to me:

www.datz.com

That's less than I used to spend at allofmp3, am I missing something?

In the US, emusic.com used to do something similar. There didn't seem to be any legal issue at all. It's just that they apparently couldn't make (enough?) money that way.

I'd say go for it and download as much as you can before they change their mind.

Have signed up, they send you a USB dongle. I managed to download loads from eMusic before they put limits on.

First search datz.com for a particular artist. Next go to the Music Lounge (which is the 99 pound product) and search for the same artist.

Is there a difference in your results?

In a couple of my searches I received a respectable number of matches in the first search, as complete albums. In the second, no matches at all.

Where I did get matches in the lounge it seems like everything is just listed by loose tracks and in a seemingly random order.

They also list bands that start "The" under "T" - that's some amazing attention to detail. On top of that they're using ".com" for what appears to be a UK-only product.

I can see how this might be a useful "product" for some. Just not for me.

.com should be international only or US only?

.com doesn't have any restrictions for use at all, but IMO, if you're going to do UK-only, you might as well use a ".co.uk" TLD.

If the site isn't supposed to be UK-only, then they need to revise their address forms to accommodate "country" and they might want to show prices in Euros or Dollars instead of Pounds Sterling.

Okay... make me look like an idiot! smile smile

Since the genre list doesn't contain a reference to Classical, how on earth did you find it?

They don't have any new works by Mozart or Beethoven, though, that's kind of a disappointment. smile

Man, those dudes haven't written anything in years. They just keep touring with the same old material.

People and companies will want the .com version of their domain. Pretty much every browser will use .com as the first try if somebody doesn't enter the TLD.

Well, no download manager, no search by album, and not all downloads work. I reckon I'll get my £99 worth from it but far from satisfactory.

Hi tanstaafl,

I think you're looking at the wrong website, the subscription is datzmusiclounge.com not datz.com

Datz Music Lounge has an extensive range of classical tracks

3455 tracks by Mozart
1907 tracks by Beethoven..

Might be worth a purchase after all

Only if you've got a lot of time on your hands, with no download manager it's an extremely slow and painful process
