I have one stuck pixel on a new 32'' Sony TV. I've read about DVDs or programs (if a PC is connected) that can jump start said pixels. Do they work? Could I make it worse? i.e. end up with more stuck pixels and lastly, what programs are recommended?

Just return the TV for an exchange.

No can do. Its an acceptable number apparently and would only be replaced if I had 4 or more. If I'd bought it online I could return it for no reason with 14 days but it was bought locally.

I've had some success (more than I expected) dealing with LCD monitor "burn-in" using JScreenFix. They claim it also helps with stuck pixels. Seems they offer a DVD if you can't hook a computer up to your display.

I have a similar situation on my 22" LCD computer monitor -- a bright green pixel just about perfectly dead center on the screen. I had never heard that something like this was fixable... I thought it was a hardware failure. Is it really possible that something like this can be repaired? It looks kind of like this, although the color doesn't show properly in the screenshot.

I have read of some success with fixing exactly what you (we) have - a stuck pixel.

Could using that tool make it any worse? I can live with one, but if after I run the app I get 6 I'll be miffed.

Is that a photo or a screen capture? The verticals appear too good for that to be a photograph.

Stuck pixels only exist on the monitor, if that's a screenshot (made using PrintScrn etc.) then I think you might have a RAM fault on your video card.

It looks like two pixels side by side? If we are talking about a monitor problem here then, assuming you have warranty remaining, it's worth checking the manufacturer's pixel statement. ISTR HP/compaq's statement making an exception where there were multiple pixel failures within a block of x by y pixels, perhaps other manufacturers do the same?

Actually, it is kind of neither and both. Don't read too much into the picture -- it was meant to show what the problem looked like, and is not an actual sample.

I took a screen shot, but of course a print screen doesn't capture the lit pixel, so I opened the screen shot in Paint, shrunk it down to a reasonable size, then manually inserted a green pixel in the middle to show what it looked like when I was staring at the monitor.

That picture is my normal desktop, so that bright green pixel right square in the middle is eye-catching. That hot pixel only appeared after the monitor was about a year old, at first intermittantly, then more and more often, and now it's always there. It really doesn't bother me too much, but if it's something that's easily fixable, then I'd take care of it.

Try running that java applet I linked to. It can't hurt. They also describe a "pixel massage" methodology.

Sounds a lot like snake oil to me.

Even if it is, it's free snake oil. But it definitely helped some burn-in I had.

You your are referring to pixel massage as "snake oil", I'll step up to say it can work. I've done it.

I said "it can work" because I've had success, and failure, with the technique. Mostly success.

I also managed to coax a group of stubborn pixels on a laptop back to life after they were squished by the little pointery-nipple thing on the keyboard. Although wouldn't have called the process 'massaging'.

Me, I just used my fingernail as if I was scraping something stubborn off the display. Up-down wiggle, while moving the finger from side to side.

In my mind the idea was to move the liquid around or breakup whatever trapped bit of derbies was sandwiched between the front and back glasses.

I tried that, and all the other suggested techniques, nothing worked. So this morning, just on a whim (no idea why, really) I gently rubbed my fingertip right-to-left across the area where the pixel was lit, and it flickered out and came back on. I did it again, and it went out for a second or two and returned. I did it one more time, it went out and stayed out!

The pressure was relatively light, just enough to see a momentary reaction on the screen behind the fingertip. I'm not betting the farm that this is a permanent fix, but for the moment it looks good.

When I get to be King of the World, I will proclaim January 13 to be Happy Pixel Day, and all will celebrate and rejoice.

I've got one such pixel on my PowerBook that's been that way since 2004. A couple of pushes on the front or back of the screen and it will go away. It's something I used to have to do every month or so when I first got the machine back in 2004. But in the past couple of years I'd be surprised if I had to do it even once a year. I can't even remember the last time it got stuck actually.

Don't underestimate the power of the pixel massage. Its benefits are obviously cumulative. A sort of pixel rehabilitation.
