Yes, I am stupid.

I am completely dain-bramaged.

It's a miracle I can drive to work in the mornings without killing myself.

I can't believe they let people like me breed.

I just plugged my USB cable into the ethernet socket on my Mark2. Bent the pins nice 'n good.

The best part is that I didn't realize it right away. No, I had to hit "refresh" on the Emplode screen several times, wondering why only Com1 came up as an option. "Where's USB"? I wondered...

Turns out the pins weren't really bent. A couple were just "shifted" to the adjacent slot. They popped right back into their proper places nice and easy.

This is in stark contrast to the NICs I get at work, where someone tries to plug an RJ-11 jack into the RJ-45 hole, bending the two outer pins so that the card quits functioning. I'm so relieved the Empeg is OK.

Neat the way you posted this to the "Technical" section rather than any other section.

Heh, a new "I am a moron and I screwed up my empeg, please help" forum? Not a bad idea.

I suggest you would make a great moderator for this new forum, plus I am sure you would find plenty of time for a nice long / informative FAQ

Uhhh... Tony, that plug doesn't fit into the ethernet socket. Mine doesn't, anyway -- at least, not without application of significant force.

What kind of hammer did you use?

Mine seemed to fit fine at first. I don't remember forcing it unduly. Although I didn't notice it at the time, it went in slightly twisted, at an angle, and didn't go in all the way. Then, when I couldn't get a USB icon in emplode, I checked the usb plug to make sure it was plugged in. I pushed it into the socket to make sure it was connected, still not realizing it was the wrong hole. Only after the third check did I realize my mistake. Yes, I am a moron.

The only reason this happened is because I was busy setting up another server PC at my desk. Normally I plug the ethernet cable into the empeg first. This time, I was temporarily borrowing the empeg's ethernet cable for this other PC, so I "skipped" the ethernet cable in the plug-in-order.
