Looks like the Rio-branded remote is quite useful in the 1.03 code... will it be possible for people who have Tuners coming to also get Rio remotes, so we don't have to learn-one-way-then-immediately-learn-a-new-way?
D
(who thinks maybe even considering giving remotes to the Mk.II folks who've been waiting a year for their free tuner upgrades might be a nice customer service apologetic gesture... but I also don't know how much the things cost, either...)

The original remote costs about $25 ($30 after shipping from there), and considering it's all nice and relabled for Rio, I don't know how much that would be. Just to give you an idea. DiGNAN

I'm pretty sure that you can do all the same things with the Kenwood remote that you can do with the Rio remote. I checked it when I got one of the early 1.03 betas, and made sure you could do everything necessary (naming presets, tuning, etc.).
Haven't checked the Kenwood remote with 1.03 Beta 4 yet. I should... ___________

Well, let me clarify that entering numbers is actually enough that I'd actually USE the remote from time to time (I've never used my remote on my empeg ever actually)... so if I'm going to learn and get accustomed to a remote on 1.03 to make tuning easier, I'd rather learn "once" on a Rio remote, than get accustomed to the old remote and then end up doing the whole "glance down at the remote learning curve" thing again later on. :)
But again, I have no idea what the Rio remote costs are, or if there is sufficient availability for them to be made available.

Sorry if this has been explained somewhere, but I'd like to know and I don't have the ability to download the new software at this time.
Is it possible to use the dial to scan the tuner? That would be very useful. It would be nice to just be able to depress the knob and be able to tune from it instead of having to use the buttons. Plus, it would give the knob some actual functionality, which honestly, it doesn't have at the moment.
Just curious. DiGNAN

I believe the Rio remote will cost about the same as the Kenwood version, and will be available as an accessory as soon as our stock turns up from the overseas manufacturer. Last I heard that could take a few weeks more. Hopefully it will coincide with the tuner.

Er, isn't the "RIO Remote" just the Kenwood remote with a RIO overlay on it with the actual buttom labels making sense?
Or has the remote been completely redesigned and created just for the RIO Car? Did I miss this post somewhere? :)

Yeah, you missed a bunch of posts.
The Rio remote has a different button layout, and uses a completely different set of IR codes. Instead of using Kenwood codes, it uses codes that are proprietary to the empeg/Rio Car. So it won't interfere with, say, Kenwood head units. ___________

And the Rio remote has push and hold features, something I thought the Kenwood one couldn't support.
Most of them will only be useful once 1.1 comes out.

But it will support both remotes in future software revisions right? I have a Kenwood steering remote RC-700 that I won't/hate to part with, has everything I need for just listening to a complete playlist Vol Next/Prev Track Play/Pause Up/Down-tuning,or FFWD/FRWD. #695 Mk2 BLUE& GRN& a mere 12Gig but growing.

Wow D, I'm stunned to hear that you've had the product a while and don't use the remote.
Initially, when I learned the UI (about 6 months ago now) I thought, "Hmph, why would I need a remote for something that is easily within my reach?!?" BUT the more I use it the happier I am with the power that lies within!
To most of you this may be old hat (yes guys, I know, I should have read it in the manual somewhere...) but I just found this feature and am really keen on how it works:
Most frequently, I use the player in what I call "Personal Radio Mode" (aka, full shuffle, three clicks down...) and the remote has been a convenient way to leave my hand where it is (on the wheel or beside me) and skip tracks that I don't care to hear right then. Well, while a track I like is playing pressing the 2 key (sub-labled Artist on the Rio remotes) automatically finds another song by the same artist and stuffs it next into the rotation. Multiple presses sort in more and more by that same artist in. The other categories do similar functions swap functions.
Now I can find, add-in, and skip all my spoken stuff without waiting until 1.1's filters come out!!
Also, I will say I've used the Kenwood and the Rio remotes with 1.03b4 and both work with much the same functionality save what has been described on this thread. Also, the remote is handy (essential) for titling the Tuner presets when RDS is not present on that station to fill the information in...
The learning between the two isn't too challenging most functions are in a similar place--especially since the Rio version has everything labeled.
Best regards,
Tim

There is an option in emplode to disable the Kenwood remote (for those with a Kenwood head unit) but by default it will continue to work as always.

Hmm, interesting. Wonder how I missed this. Have there been any links posted of pictures of the Rio Remote? I recall seeing one, but again it was just a kenwood remote with the RIO (or empeg) logo on it instead of the Kenwood logo.

here is the pic of the empeg car remote from the first Amersfoot meet (wow, it's been that long eh?). AFAIK, that's what the new remote looks like. The button layout is actually different from the Kenwoods if you look closely. Some functions have moved around. i can't get to that other link from the rio store that was around a while back, but i think it had the same layout, just with a rio branding... correct me if i'm wrong guys.

AMAZING. Everytime I look at this bulletin board I find shortcuts that I never knew existed. I MUST re-read my manual cuz there is stuff here that I have been hoping gets incorporated and IT'S ALREADY THERE. The best one I found recently was pressing the 0 on the remote to play the next track on a source/album. This was on a personal wishlist that I thought wouldn't happen. I LURVE MY EMPEG.

Ahh, OK. I do remember seeing this picture, but since the controller had the same amount of buttons and in relatively the same shape as the Kenwood, I assumed it was just a Kenwood with a different front overlay on it. Looking at it in depth now it does look a tad bit different in shape.
Thanks for the link.

Thanks, I really didn't think it would be abandoned or removed, for the original empeg car owners would have to switch remotes, it was kinda of a dumb ? of me.

Too bad the remote doesn't have some of that limelite type nightlight stuff too highlight the labels, at night it's a feeling type thing, which I've become quite good at but still can't remember what all the shortcuts are or second functions.
