So- it looked for a while like the FDIC was going to be able to sell off our bank and my job would be safe. Unfortunately, the deal fell through (after it was a "done deal"- different definition of "done" I guess) so at the end of this month, I am out of a job.

What really bums me out about this is that this is the best software development team I've ever worked on. I'm genuinely frightened to go work anywhere else because I know it simply won't live up to what we had here. I just wish I had some brilliant idea for a new product so I could keep the team together.

Oh well- no job lasts forever, I suppose.

Bummer, man. I spent almost six years in the financial sector, and was very lucky to get out before it began to implode.

Good luck finding something else soon, even if it doesn't quite measure up to what you have.

Silverton bank. It was a corespondent bank- meaning a bank for banks. They failed us on May 1st, but the FDIC attempt to turn around and sell us to investment groups. They had something worked out on Friday, but obviously something went south.

Jeff moved to Atlanta a couple years ago for this job, so it would be the job market in Atlanta.

Sorry to hear that - most of my clients are banks and a large number are either in a similar boat, or getting the CVs out just in case.
In looking at where I see dev jobs in FS - more and more are now starting to put a premium on developers who understand secure coding, and ideally have certs in this area...and this is still a growth area - worth a look?
