Anyone know of a way to be notified when a certain item shows up on the Dell Outlet store? Specifically, I'm looking for a 3008WFP monitor. I found an Adobe Air app (http://www.outletscanner.com/), but it's limited to computer systems.

Finally taking the new monitor plunge, and deciding to just go for the 30 inch. Since I'm not in a huge hurry, I might as well play Dell's games to get a decent deal.

About four years ago I wrote a little program to do that. I think I wrote some javascript that I inserted into the outlet page that looked for specific products and automatically checked them and clicked the submit button when it saw them, and otherwise reloaded the page periodically.

I'm not aware of any existing program. At the time, people were charging for such programs, because people were using them to flip Dell outlet equipment on ebay.

I've put something together that I think will work.

1. curl downloads this page that appears to search for the 3008WFP.
2. The page is greped for 3008WFP
3. wc counts how many instances show up. With no stock, 2 instances are returned.
4. If the bash script sees more then 2, it sends a notification off via GrowlNotify
5. If the machine is idle, Growl passes the notification off to Prowl for delivery to my iPhone.

Tossed the script into cron to run every 10 minutes.

Oh, and asked Dell Outlet on Twitter if they had any hints as to when new stock might show up. They responded back pretty quickly saying it will probably be another few weeks.
