Hi folks,
I am trying to upload wma-files to my empeg, running V2.01.
Now emplode and also jemplode tell me the wma-files are drm-protected, when in fact they are not...at least thatīs what every windows-software tells me.
They also play fine on other wma-capable players, without licences or anything.

Any ideas what I could do to bring them on the empeg, other than converting them into another format and losing quality..?

Hm. What bit rate are those WMA files? I remember that there used to be a bug (that I thought got fixed) where WMA files higher than a certain bit rate would get an error. I don't remember what that bit rate was, or if the error manifested itself in the way you describe.

I also seem to recall this question coming up before in the past, and I don't recall how it was resolved. Anyone got a link to that discussion?

They are at 192kbps - so not that high.
Of course I tried to search the forum, but I didn't get any result (not even one) with "wma" and "drm"...!?

I seem to recall that WMA files created with newer versions of the WMA encoder also appear as DRM-protected, because emplode can't recognise the format. If this is the case, you probably can't play them on the empeg either.

After reading into it, I created a fix - the headers of these wma-files contain a ASF-"Script Command Object", emplode doesn't like these for some reason.

I wrote a little app to find that 16-byte-GUID and replace it with one of a "Padding Object".
Works.

Dude. That's AWESOME. Please make that available to us via the RioCar.org file downloads section. Put it under utilities. I'll make a FAQ entry for it that links to the utility.

THANK YOU.

Well, there's no usable front-end so far, just quick and dirty - if anyone should experience the same problem, please pmail me, I'll make a usable tool out of it then.
