Can you recommend products which meet these in-car audio needs. The goal is to use my Motorola Droid to play audio on my car stereo with no wires and no bluetooth hockey pucks anywhere.

1. Bluetooth stereo audio receiver which outputs RCA and is hardwired to car power. Handling calls is not necessary, just receiving stereo audio.

2. Mini USB or micro USB cable for charging devices which is hardwired to car power.

All I've found is a BlackBerry Bluetooth Audio Gateway which receives bluetooth audio and outputs it to 1/8" audio. But it gets power from mini USB, so I'll need that hardwired.

Maybe I'm going about this wrong. Instead, I could pay $230 - $300 for a new (ugly) headunit which receives Bluetooth. My build-your-own approach would require a receiver, better source switcher, and maybe USB power, so the headunit may be a more simple option.

How do you listen to bluetooth audio from your phone in your car? Thanks.

I know you don't want something sitting out, but wouldn't you need some way to control the bluetooth receiver for pairing or re-pairing? I know everyone here always tells me that bluetooth never fails to make a connection, but that simply hasn't been my experience. Fortunately my car has bluetooth built in, so if it doesn't connect when it turns on, I can go into the menu and tell it to try again.

When I was trying to use my phone for both audio and phone, I used this device (with a cable, not the FM tuner), but that's far messier than you want.

Edit Reason: saw he only wanted audio, so profile discussion wasn't really necessary

um... with no wires, but with wires?

Here's a car mount for the Droid that also charges and supplies ports for other charging uses. Is that helpful?

Seidio has other interesting bits for the Droid. I learned about them from the Droid Accessories thread on HoFo.

That's a wild dock. But like many others, they don't mention how it gets power from the car.

I got the idea to hardwire mini USB from ProClip, with their integrated charging cable. I could use a mini USB cable hardwired to the car to power the BlackBerry Bluetooth gateway, then tuck the whole thing inside the dash.

According to reviewers on Amazon, pairing to the BlackBerry is rarely needed. I am considering putting it in the ash/coin tray for quick access.

Here's some good info about making a hardwired USB power cable.

Here's a lifehacker blurb about in-car USB stuff. The blurb itself is next to worthless when compared to the comments, so be sure to check them out.

Ooo, I saw that. It really tempted me to try this, but I don't think I have the dash for this experiment, and I don't know how to solder smile
