Anybody care to recommend an easy to use MP3 recorder? The only important feature would be a comprehensive scheduler: It just has to do line in and wave out mix, I'm not bothered about editing, file conversion etc. etc.
I've used Audiotools very happily for 8 years, but the author got pissed off with being ripped off and took it off the market, so no vista or 7 likely - therefore, I think it's time to move on.

Would the open-source audacity fit the bill?

I have that, it doesn't have a scheduler and I'd prefer not having to convert to MP3 as a separate procedure.

Windows has a built-in scheduler called "Scheduled Tasks".

But how would you get Windows to run that specific task in Audacity, as opposed to just simply firing up the program?

If Audacity had some sort of command-line interface I guess you could write a batch file to execute at a scheduled interval.

hmm

Well, I didn't know whether it had CLI or not. Looking through the wiki and help files, it seems not.

But(!!) the beta versions have a recording timer!

So long as Audacity is already running, you can set it to start recording and end recording at user selected times!
Cool.

Great, thanks, I hadn't spotted that, I'll give it a try.
