I just migrated my system from W98 to W2K. Since then, my MP3 encoding setup broke. I am using EAC with LAME 388. To ensure that everything would be configured properly, I imported my option profile from my W98 setup. (See attached screen shot).

When I encode a track, LAME compresses it in seconds instead of minutes. The outcome is a small (1MB) mp3 file instead of my usual large files. When I observe the graph during compression, all of the frames fall into the 32 k/s/ range.

Does anyone know what might be going on here?

I understand this is a novel idea for Windows users but have you tried making an encode using the lame encoder via command prompt. Just to see if that works ? Don't know about EAC but it might just be an incompatibility between that and the 3.88 beta ... Maybe some parameter that changed ?

Cheers,
Hans

I just figured out a workaround for my own problem. I added a switch to the setting "-b 128". This forced the bit rate that EAC asks in a pull-down menu below. I guess this parameter wasn't gettign passed for soem reason.
