I lost about 50gb of data from an ntfs drive. Straightforward deletion. I've not written anything else go the drive since. Trouble is, when I ran a recovery program the files are not in any folder structure like they used to be. The names are also gone - renamed as numbers. Is there software which can recover the files and maintain the structure and names?

For free software, you can try Recuva.

The usual recommendation, though, is probably GetDataBack. I think there's a free version that will tease you by showing you your files, but not recovering them (or recovering something like 200MB).

Recuva saved me one time, similar circumstances running NTFS under Windows Vista. To the best of my knowledge, it recovered all but one file (a photograph I happened to remember and went to look for and it was gone, perhaps a few other files I didn't remember also were lost) and it restored full directory structure and filenames.

I have had good success with the R-Studio NTFS software for NTFS partitions
