I have seen a post on here about someone trying to put an Empeg into a Nissan Primera Mk2. Unforunately, I didn't see a post which answered the question/problem and I have the same issue with my 300ZX Twin Turbo. Basically, the Nissans have a metal bracket which holds 2 DIN sized units. The holding of the units is done by screw holes and not by twisty bits etc. Apart from the fact that there are two little indents which prevent the Empeg cage from fitting (I'll file these off), how can I fit the Empeg cage?

Any help would be aprpeciated!

If you're willing to drill screw holes into the cage (carefully checking its position depth first), you can get an extremely solid mount by screwing the cage directly to the vehicle's mounting bracket.

This is what I did on my Honda. In the photo, you can sorta see the screws...

The trick is to get screws that have a low clearance on the top so that they don't interfere with inserting/removing the sled. Then screw from the inside out, using the openings in the cage to insert your screwdriver.

Note that I was able to remove the vehicle's mounting bracket from the dash itself (after removing the plastic trim, 4 screws released the mounting cage), but it might be harder for you if you can't do that on your car.

Also, when drilling the holes in the cage, cover up the connector and move the empeg and other parts out of range, so that metal shavings don't get into the connector or the empeg.

I did this on both my Mk1 and my Mk2 installations, and it's proven very solid and reliable.

Thanks for the advice. I was afraid you would say drill holes! I have all the skill of a 3 year old when it comes to drilling (should have seen me drilling holes for my license plate - what a farce!). I'll take that suggestion and see if I can find someone who can do this for me as I'm bound to screw it up. BTW, thats a very nice, clean install you've done.

Oh, if you're not ready to drill holes, then I think you can get an adapter that allows you to put a bendy-tab DIN unit into a side-hole mounting location. Check with either Crutchfield or a stereo installer shop and see if such a thing exists.

Another option would be to locate a friend who's good with tools and see if they'll help you do the positioning and drilling.

Thanks Tony for all the advice. Just FYI, someone from this forum has very kindly agreed to fit the unit for me. I'll let everyone know how it goes and I'll take some pics of the installation.
