OK, so I guess I should have an empeg mounted in the vehicle for the weekend. As the MK 1 fits the Land Rover from a styling point of view, I want to take that one with me, but... It's been a while since I have uploaded music into it. I guess jemplode on linux doesn't support USB, so I need to get something set up on the "occasional use" windows XP box. Just don't seem to find a download address for either jemplode or the original emplode software...

jEmplode is mirrored off RioCar.org. I've updated the post the jEmplode link at the top of the page to reflect this.

Thanks! I assume there is no way to get mp3s from a linux machine to a MK1?

Ummh, yes... Just quickly tried to compile empegtool on my ubuntu system, but it was missing some header/library files, will look into it at some point...

I suppose you could do it all in a Mk2/Mk2a unit, and after it's all set-up and working, then install the Mk1 .upgrade file over top of it all.

Well, I can do the basic uploading here at home from the windows box, so if I then need to update stuff (because I forgot essential audio files), I can probably use serial from my linux laptop.

There used to be an Empeg USB driver for Linux. It might even have been in the mainstream kernel. Look under USB serial adaptors, maybe, 'cos that's what it basically was.

Edit: Still there in 2.6.39! The config setting is USB_SERIAL_EMPEG.
