I have an mp3 files that causes emplode to consume 1/2 a gig of memory as soon as I drag it in. It plays fine in winamp and qcd (on windows), and I used Dr. Tag to re-write the ID3 V1 and V2 tags and the problem still occurs. Has anyone else seen this happen? BTW, I am using emplode v 1.03.

Whatever you do, hang on to a copy of that "bad" file so that the Empeg folks can look at it and see what's wrong with it. Their software should not choke, even on an invalid file. It should, at worst, refuse the file on the grounds that it's bad.

But...

Use MP3Trim to examine the file and see if it thinks there's anything fishy about the file. Look in the FAQ section of the BBS for posts regarding MP3 editing utilities for more hints.

My guess is that there's something funny in its tags, such as a corrupted tag, causing Emplode to try to parse the whole file for tag data.

I had a file like this in the past, I made a copy available to the guys at empeg and they fixed the bug in emplode.

Tony, maybe you should add Helium to this FAQ? With it you can edit tags, check integrity. You can inventory your complete MP3 directory and immediately see which files aren't completely right. To be absolutely sure you can select your whole collection and run the check tool. Cool fact is that they are working on version 2, which extends ID3v2 support!

It actually is the other way around!

Helium uses the most current version of the ID3v2 standard, Winamp is using an older version... So the guys developing ID3v2 haven't thought much about backward compatibility? Guess we have to wait for Winamp v3 then .

On the other hand, Helium is 100% compatible with MusicMatch tags!!!! And in a short while Helium2 will appear

I tried Helium and did not like it very much. I have been using Dr. TAG for a long while now.

I just found Helium (I only used it yesterday on about 34 new MP3s I made) to be too buggy or clumsy. I mean, the thing I want most is to set the tags as easily as possible. With Helium, sometimes it picks up the Track # sometimes not. And when I created a template like Track - Title, it kept selecting Artist - Title as the template to use. I figured it had some intelligence and would say "The first item is a number, assume it is a track" and pick the correct template.

Maybe I am just used to Dr. TAG, CTRL-W (Automatic fill), figuring out the filename pattern for me so I do not have to click through each file, set the track, or set the template, etc....
