Rewind on the kenwood does backspace; not sure which key it is on a rio remote, though I suspect it's cancel?

Yes, I'm pretty sure that it's Cancel on the Rio Remote as well.

how are we supposed to type the hex digits a-f when entering PINs?

Um, I'd say that you should choose to only name your PINs with decimal digits.

Since: a) you are the one making the PINs (you have to enter them yourself into emplode), and b) you can only enter PINs with the remote control, then it's a self-correcting system. Assign PINs that work.

The only odd thing is that Emplode shouldn't allow you to enter alphabetic PINs. Does it?

Doh! I thought PINs were FIDs! TLA overload!

You're half right: rewind deletes in the numeric entry fields (year and PIN), but not in the textual ones (the ones I'm most likely to mis-type!). For those,n rewind and ffd move through the displayed search results.

Cancel returns straight to your current visual (or info) in all cases AFAICT.

Hmm, PC.  Public Convenience Floor?

In the text search modes, the kenwood uses the AM- button for backspace.

The Rio remote doesn't have an AM button; the Source and Tuner buttons don't have any effect in text search.

[I've just discovered that Select-Mode and Info both toggle between "search by" and "append by" - perhaps that should be mentioned in the manual?]

The fact that info alters the search mode is probably a bug. Or did you mean that the manual makes no mention of either button?

Yes.

I wasn't sure whether Info was supposed to have the same effect or not.

Hmm. I could have sworn that Cancel on the Rio remote worked like backspace when doing alphanumeric searches. But I just tried it on 1.03, and it doesn't.

Rewind on the Rio Remote does work like backspace in the alphanumeric searches, but you have to hold down the button.

Ah, I hadn't tried that (holding it down).

Now I've tried it, I can say I don't like it. If I want to backspace one character, it's hard to time it right - the autorepeat kicks in very soon, and I end up with the whole string being erased.

There has to be a better way - I suggest that Cancel should backspace until the string is empty.

BTW, my (Rio branded) remote seems a bit dodgy. It will work for a while, then stop working for 5 or 10 minutes. Is there an easy way to tell whether the remote or the player (Rio brand, 1.03 developer image) is at fault?

In v2.0, it does. I wonder why this didn't make it into v1.03?
