A friend getting used to my empeg actually helped me come up with this one. How about a press and hold on the tweak order buttons to queue up as many results as possible.

For example, a song comes up from (hmm, we will use my latest CD) Planet of the Apes, and you want to hear the rest of the CD as well. Instead of pressing the 3 key several times, just press and hold it to get the entire cd.

In that case, you can just un-shuffle, and it'll un-shuffle "around" your current song and play the rest of the CD. That's a single press on the "0" button on the remote. It can also be done from the front panel.

When the album is over, it'll just roll on to the next one in your list. You can re-shuffle at that point if you want.

Unsuffle still seems to be hit and miss with 1.03. Also, it would be necessary to back up a few songs to catch the entire CD. Main reason I'd like to see it is for the possibilities on the other buttons as well. I'd probably never use press and hold for genre or year, but could see myself using it for artist to get out of having to look at the screen and search.

correct me if i am wrong, but i thought the empeg couldn't recognize an extended button press. maybe it was more of a 'double click' thing that i am thinking of.

I think that's true for the Kenwood remote. But the Rio remote definitely has the ability to recognize a "held" button.

Pressing and holding the volume button on the Kenwood remote that I own does raise the volume until I release it. I believe the Kenwood repeats the code until released, whereas the Rio sends a down and up code. (I could be wrong on that).

Ive got an infrared repeater (for controlling satellite from another room in the house). It has a light that flashes when it receives an IR signal and it seems my Rio remote transmits repeatedly while you hold down a button.

The remote sends a special repeat code. The driver in the kernel will then just resend the button that was last pressed and set a flag that it is repeated.

IIRC, some of the Kenwood buttons don't have repeat (i.e. press-and-hold). We spec'ed the Rio remote so that they all do.
