My Empeg has been pride of place at the top of my bookshelf for a while now, and I realised that it was quite dusty up there. I don't really want to sell it, but it is better that someone uses it rather than it just sits there and does nothing. One day if I do get a suitable car, I'll probably hunt down another one.
I have Lunatic which is my own Empeg that saw service in my Skoda Fabia in 2005 and the Mazda 3 in 2008.
It has been sitting on my shelf for a long time, next to my Best Installation 2006 Trophy!
I did find the box of stuff. It is one box.
Close up of the face. It is in mint condition, the face and lens are both pretty much New.
No disk included. I once ran it with a CompactFlash adapter which I didn't want to short out on the drive tray, hence the Duct Tape. I may still have that adapter somewhere... If I find it, I'll include it.
Main board with matching serial number
The IDE connectors are in excellent condition, with no signs of dryness, fragility or lifting from the board.
So there are the original slightly grubby buttons, and the original Black Anodized fascia screws. Also a set of Stealth Black buttons (installed) and Red Buttons from Chris and Prototype Stainless Steel fascia screws from Hugo.
The one day I failed to lock the Mazda in my driveway some sticky fingered person took my parking change, pack of Polos and the Rio Remote. Thank god they didn't take my Empeg. I have a brand new Rio Remote, very little use. Will throw in a fresh battery.
Original Empeg User Guide, Addendum and Software CD. Windows 98, please make sure your computer is up to spec.
This is the original fascia, its in okay condition and definitely a good spare just in case.
A Full set of all of the original lenses. The Blue one on the player right now is in perfect as new condition, and the Red, Amber and Green lenses are brand new unused. The Blue lens is well used and not so great shape, but still workable. Once installed I remember it is not bad.
Original Empeg/Rio Tuner Module. This works fine, and the remote/stalk input works well too. It comes with some antenna cables and adapters (my Mazda needed these).
The Sled. Its in 'okay' condition. It does all work, but when the Empeg is installed the handle doesn't completely engage all the way down (handle sticks out by a millimetre or two). It has always been like this, and could easily be fixed by cutting the holes in the top of the sled larger or making some other adjustments if it did bother you. I stopped noticing after a while!
Closeup of the connector bit
The tabs are good. The ones on the top have never been bent, and the ones on the bottom are not mangled.
Comes with IBM Laptop Power Supply, 16V, 2.2A and the right connector on the end. The tip is slightly damaged (didn't come out in the picture, sorry) but works perfectly fine.
You also get original window stickers, one of the Mk1 ones, and one of each internal and external Mk2. Also an Empeg carry case (rarer than the rare Riocar one!). Also throwing in speaker cables and RCA Leads which were in the box, they look pretty good quality. It is quite a package.
It does fire up, and works as you would expect. The encoder knob should work perfectly too - it was replaced by Rob S a long while back and been used gently since.
I'd let it all go for £225. I am in the UK, North London if you want to collect, or I am happy to pack it all up if you want to pay postage. Would rather not split it to be honest, it is a nice complete set of Empeg stuff!
The Big Disk Builder upgrade image handled this just fine with no issues, its now running 2.01 and the latest Hijack v515. The kernel output over serial looks like this (with the tuner plugged in too):
Code:
empeg-car bootstrap v1.02 20001106 ([email protected])
If there is anyone present who wants to upgrade the flash, let them speak now,

I loaded on some music to play around:
Installed a new CR2025 battery into the remote control, and it is all sweet. Lunatic is ready once more to (Robot) Rock!
