I recently had a couple of wires pull out of my loom, which i tried to solder back in with my limited soldering skills. They subsequently pulled out again, so i sent an email to the support guys and after a month of anxious waiting got my new loom in the mail... So here's my question..
For those that got the new "soldered" looms... where is the solder? Should it be visible on the crimp connections on the docking connector? The one i was sent has no trace of visible solder, and some of the crimps see pretty shoddy with wire hanging half out of the crimp, and on top of that one of the connector pins is bent down. I just wanted to make sure i got a new soldered version and not an old one that was laying around, namely cause i don't want to have to take my dash apart again in a month when these pull out... not to mention my warranty is up in less than a month. Thanks!

Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Heh. But seriously, Loren. Play with the loom you've got, give the wires some reasonable tugs to make sure they don't come out of the loom, and then just use it. I wouldn't worry too hard about it. It's either a good loom or it's not, regardless of whether it was actually soldered or not.

Okay, i gave it a few tugs and it all seems secure... it's more the long term tugging i'm worried about due to my warranty running out soon, and Hugo's repeated reminders that these suckers aren't cheap!! =]
I'll put it in today and hope for the best. Thanks Tony.
On another note... how exactly DO you get the pins out of the harness to solder them?

FBDO is one of my all-time favorite movies. I have most of it memorized.
That particular line, however, I had to look up to make sure I got it right.
Favorite line (from memory this time) is:
"The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California. Less than a hundred were made. My father spent three years restoring this car. It is his love, it is his passion..."
"...it is his fault he didn't lock the garage."

"To quote John Lennon, ' I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me.' Pretty strong words there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus but I'd still have to bum rides off people"

"I wasn't kidding, I do have a test today. It's on European socialism. I mean, really. What's the point? I'm not European. I don't plan on being European. So who gives a crap if they're socialists? They could be facist anarchists. It still wouldn't change the fact that I don't own a car."
Heh. We could go on all day like this.
Now, here's some trivia...
Who's familiar with the piece of music that plays during the Art Museum scene? ___________

I'm surprised no one changed the topic header before now.

Good, good.
The version you hear is actually a cover tune. It's performed by The Dream Academy. The original version was written by Morrisey and performed by The Smiths. The Dream Academy cover is much more intricate, with orchestration and stuff. The one you hear in FBDO is the instrumental tracks only. There is actually a vocal and lyric to the song: Good times, for a change
Seems the luck I've had
would make a good man turn bad
So please please please
Let me let me let me let me
get what I want
this time
Haven't had a dream in a long time
Seems the life I've had
could make a good man bad
So for once in my life
let me get what I want
Lord knows
it would be the first time
Lord knows
it would be the first time I love it, because when you know the lyrics, it's the perfect song for that movie-- a movie about someone who always gets what he wants, someone for whom things always go right.
I recently looked up the song and learned how to play it on the guitar because I thought it was so neat. ___________

To remove the contacts from the connector, push a pin into the hole under the contact on the inner side of the connector, then pull on the wire to get it out.
If you have any problems, contact support again - if this replacement is faulty then we'll replace it even if your warranty is up.
