The battery in my old 6 is ridiculous, barely lasts overnight, let alone when it's in use. Apart from that it's fine, I was going to get a new battery fitted, any old phone shop or should I go to Apple?

No harm in asking the Apple Store what the charge would be for a battery replacement.

One upside of having Apple do the work is that you will know the new battery is up to specification and there should be a decent degree of competence in the work.

Third party repair services can vary, in the caliber of the workmanship and the battery itself.

Check if there's a recall, your battery should not be bad this early on. You might get it for free. Check to see if the phone is bulging.

Definitely go to Apple. Most likely they won't charge much more than the fly-by-night shops, and you'll get a new phone.

No need to ask Apple what their price is, is is all documented on their support website.

Well dang, I didn't hear about that. My wife's 6s had bad battery life and she switched to a new phone.

I think mine's a 6s. I went to the Apple store in Stratford on Wednesday, they told me I needed to wait in the "genius" queue outside the store, after a wait of 30 mins I was told it would be a 4 hr wait for an appointment. Just as I left the queue a woman who was joining teh queue was told "why don't you just download the apple shop app and book through there?"

Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks for the links Andy, whether it's a warranty replacement or not that seems a good deal.

There is an Apple Store app, which is mostly for buying Apple things.

There is also an Apple Support app. This allows making Genius Bar (I greatly dislike that name) appointments and provides online guidance for resolving problems.

If you have the Apple Support app open when you walk into an Apple Store I think app may even welcome you and provide some guidance (and check in?) to the Genius Bar queue.

Would be very nice if they actually told you that rather than send you to the back of the Genius queue smile

At my local Apple Store, there is a Genius Bar triage ‘greeter’ when I walk in. I tell them what the issue is. A few notes are taken and I get a time estimate for an appointment (typically an hour or so into the future). I can then go away and do other things. I will get a message on my iPhone when my appointment slot is coming up, and I then walk back into the Apple Store.

If I pre-book a Genius Bar appointment using the Support app, then the triage greeter sends me to a designated spot at the Genius Bar tables, and within minutes someone is helping me.

Apparently Apple recently rejiggered the proportions of Genius Bar time slots that are available for walk-in traffic, so support app bookings tend to be farther into the future than they used to be.

Tip: Apple Stores tend to have really fast WiFi Internet. No appointment necessary, just be near or inside the store. I suspect it may have some special sauce (server in the back room) so downloads of Apple specific content, such as iOS updates, are really fast. Might even have super fast iCloud backup/restore capability confused , which would be useful for the Genius Bar.
