Just wondering if the international e-store could be changed so that we could pre-order Tuners. I'd like to order an extra mains adapter and remote at the same time and then sit back and wait for confirmation of them all being sent instead of having to do a daily check - especially as I don't get the chance to log on every day at the moment.

I don't intend to take pre-orders. However angry people become while waiting to order an item, the level of anger increases significantly if an order has been placed but not dispatched. That may be my opinion, but since this is an empeg store and not SONICblue, and since I have no direct control over receiving stock from the USA, that's how it is.
The moment the tuners arrive they will be available to order online. I post here at the same time.

In reply to:

A very valid point, but not for me personally, especially if I know that I will be notified once what I've ordered becomes available. I am used to pre-ordering DVDs a couple of months in advance and the only thing that annoys me is if they don't have the features that they are supposed to have and were the ones that influenced my decision to buy. I'm just being tetchy at the moment because of the things I can't seem to get at the moment e.g.
1. Cable broadband internet - even though their web site says it is available for my postcode, it isn't
2. ADSL - which is not available on my exchange.
3. A DigiBox that I can plug my TiVo drive into - Pace have brought out a dual decoder PTR unit that I would like, but I'm not paying another set of subscription charges.
4. A PC that will let me use DisplayServer properly - I think mine needs a reformat and reinstall but I hate doing that.
5. The ability to make the simplest changes on my empeg without having to constantly ask for help on this BBS.

You get a free tuner if you bought a Mk.2 with the Mk.1 upgrade deal. We contacted everyone on that list about a week ago to verify the shipping address. If you got that email, you'll receive your tuner automatically.
If you qualify but did not get the email (or telephone call) please email me.

Right on! - Acutally the danish state radio is a bit borring, and the commercial broadcasters, are .. commercial, lots of commercials all over the plads. yuck. I only want the radio because of the RDS traffic notifications. Especially when i'm drivning in Germany it's usefull.. Who havn't heard the '5 km Stau um Frankfurter kreutz'

Even better than nothing being worth listening to on the radio, is that most of us in the US can't even get the traffic reports or RDS. In my area, I found two stations that do RDS, and both of those are solely to transmit the name of the station.
The irony

Skyradio just recently started broadcasting near Copenhagen, and they use the RDS text feature to broadcast the name of the artist playing plus the title of the song. Extremely cool feature. I wonder why this is the first time i see this?..

DAB has this, but a lot more besides. There was some talk of the BBC actually outputting the song lyrics via DAB, but there were some copyright issues and the idea was canned.
I don't think that RDS refreshes often enough to actually do this though - pity.

Hehe, the same reason here to order a tuner... actually, I live next to the mentioned Autobahn cross... and needless to say, always when passing it I try to miss something at my empeg... :(
Any news on the tuner stock in uk? Besides, were does Rio manufactures them? Didn't Rob once mention Germany....?

Atleast the RDS broadcasts are speedy enough for displaying titles and artist plus the the station name and frequency. It seems that is miss something occasionally, but it's a remarkebly good system. Anyway, does anyone know whats the bandwidth in the air using RDS ?

The stock isn't here yet, I'm finding it hard to track right now, but Steve Sanders (automotive product line manager) is on the case.
The tuners are made near Portland, OR. They were designed in Germany and the UK.

Somebody mentioned bandwith of a bit over one kilo... hm, bit or byte (per second)? I guess I will have to go searching...
Ah, here it is, by Hugo, of course!

So, this is the first piece of empeg-related stuff not entirely designed by the gang in Cambridge? Was integration of design efforts smooth ? (feel free to refuse the answer, of course )

We worked with the same hardware development team (in Germany) on the Rio Receiver as well as the tuner module (and an as yet unannounced product) and the integration was very smooth. We specifically sought to become a software specialist division when empeg was sold to SONICblue.

Rob: "The tuners are made near Portland, OR."
Hmmm. That's right. Mine had a sticker on it that said "Inspected by D.B. Cooper". Could that explain some of the fleeting behaviors of tuners, sleds, etc.?
