Well I am having a strange problem with my empeg, but before I go farther into the troubleshooting, I am making a complete backup by FTPing the files off.

My question is, if it becomes necessary to use this backup, can I just stick all the same files back in the fids directory and have all my music and playlists back? Or will something else need to be done?

Just stick all the fids back, then (with the disks mounted read-write still) ctrl-D and let the player start. It will regenerate the databases and save them back.

If you might have old database files in the way, first delete them from the /empeg/var directory (symlinked to /drive0/var).
