I have a question about the after market installation. First of all, does anyone know of a good installer in Northern Virginia (US)? I don't expect many people to be from around there, but still.
My main question: I am looking into leasing a 2000 Land Rover Discovery. I plan to install the empeg as an after market thing, and I want a clean install so we can just put the old stereo back in when we return the car. Someone mentioned in a review that they had to cut the dash to make room for it, and that is not possible in my case. Is it possible to find a pre-certified list of cars the empeg will definitely fit into PERFECTLY? I understand that this is probably difficult.

We don't need to make a list of cars that the empeg will fit into, because the empeg is a totally standard single height (2") DIN head unit. This is the same size as most after-market CD and tape heads (there are also 3" and 4" heads, but the empeg will fit one of these large bays as well, given an adapter).
Any local in-car hifi installer or vehicle dealer will be able to tell you if a DIN head will fit in your car, and whether any special hardware is required.

Unless your land rover comes with an amp preinstalled, you will have to add one. That would involve drilling holes through the firewall and other fun things like that.
Good luck, Term

Correct, but what's at issue here is that the "standard DIN size stereo" you currently have has an amp included inside it. The Empeg does not. Thus, there is a world of difference between what is "easily achievable" in one car vs. another.

Fitting an amplifier for an empeg is no different an issue than for any head unit (particularly with the Mk.2). This is something that a good local installer will be able to advise upon, and it's really not viable for us to maintain a set of fitting instructions for every model of every vehicle in the world.

When you say Euro DIN, does that mean that there's a difference between what you guys have in Europe and what we have in America?
Well I don't think it matters anyway, because Land Rover is a British company. I don't know, that might mean something. And I found out it does come with an amp. Thanks guys!

The DIN car mount standard is internationally recognised. In the US it's often known as 2" DIN or 4" DIN (depending on how big your bay is).

Oh yeah, BMW, sorry :)
Oh well, doesn't look like we're going with that car anymore anyway.

Eh? Since when? I know BMW got the car division and Rolls, but I was pretty certain they didn't get Land Rover (which has always been independent of the car division anyway). This was what Mr. Piech was supposedly after all along, but he got conned

But the Rover and Rolls purchases were not connected. A Land Rover were part of the Rover Group and are therefore now owned by BMW (though possibly not for much longer, if the rumours over a deal with VW are true). BMW are even talking about combining BMW, Rover and Land Rover dealerships here in the UK (they currently have different dealerships for each brand).
