Is it possible to change the initial boot logo? I've uploaded a custom logo with Tony's logo editor, but the player still displays the empeg logo for a second before showing my custom logo. Not that I have anything against the empeg logo, it's just the perfectionist in me talking...

The initial boot logo is compiled into the Kernel. If you're willing to compile your own kernel, you can put whatever you want in there.

The other option would be to recompile the kernel so that it only ever shows the custom logo.

Both are do-able, and I think the latter has already been done in the past. Although I don't know if a 1.03 version exists. See if Drakino has it at his kernel site. And if not, maybe you can prod him into offering that version.

I know I don't have one with this mod yet, it's on my list. The good news is that I am going to get the machine back up that I was using to compile these later today, so I should be able to crank a few more kernels out by the end of this week.

I noticed too that with 1.03 the custom logo only appears for about a second or less.... it there anyway to have it display longer without increasing the boot time? Is there any way to eat this cake I have? :P

Well, you could do the thing I suggested about a custom kernel that displays ONLY the custom logo. Then it would stay on the screen longer without increasing the boot time.

Or, if you want, you can put your own init script into place that pauses before it launches the player app. If I recall correctly, the custom logo stays on the screen right up until the player app grabs the display. So anything you do in the init script which delays the starting of the player app without writing to the screen would make your custom logo stay up longer. But that would increase the boot time.

Since I installed the Hijack Kernal (and the boot animation changed), my player is only displaying the custom boot logo I put on for about 1/2 of a second. Can someone tell me what file I would edit/change (and what I would do to the file) to make it display my custom boot logo for a bit longer? I don't care if it takes longer to boot...

I guess if there isn't an easy way to do it, I could always switch it back to the original boot animation (the waving penguin)... I think...

To make your static boot logo image stay on longer, you must shorten the animation. Reduce the number of frames in the animation.

The longer the animation, the shorter your static image will stay on the screen. The shorter the animation, the longer the static image will stay.

I have compromised, and made my animation match up with the static image: The last few frames of my animation are the same as the static image.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am going to try and put the original animation back into it and I guess that will solve the problem. After reading the faq, I'm not going to screw with my config files

Too bad you cant just tell it to pause for two seconds so you can see your nice boot logos

It was Mike Schrag's Hijack Animation that I was using, I guess Hijack installed it automatically. Either his animation is longer than it should be or my player has something screwy with it! Maybe I will play around with jEMPLODE tonight when I get home...

The original 2.0 animation is available as a download from Riocar.org if you want it.

I just checked. The original 2.0 boot animation was 27 frames. Mike Schrag's Hijack boot animation is 49 frames, hence the lack of static image display after it.
