I would, BUT, the Mk2 unit does NOT allow for a 4V input. This would complicate me sending my factory deck and 6-disc changer into the AUX input for the Mk2. Other than that, I would.

You can send the 4v inputs into the Mk2 just fine. Haven't you tried it? Check the FAQ on this subject.

Even if there was a problem, you can easily buy in-line level adjustment transformers. I know Caliber and Pioneer do these; the Caliber one is manually adjustable. Cost was about 14 quid for two channels.

Yes, I have read that FAQ, and you state the Empeg into another device. I am talking about the reverse. And regardless, if you have ever tried to plug an empeg into a device that accepts 1v inputs, and a device that pushes more than 1v or 4v into an empeg, the sound is VERY distorted. The only way to compensate and get the sound better is to turn the volume of the source unit waaaaaay down and then turn the volume of the output unit way up. Have you ever tried to do this? because you are very much wrong about the "only side effect" being an increased volume.

Currently, I put the factory BMW head unit, into my Mk.1 (with the jumper set for 4v) and I have to turn the EMPEG volume up higher than normal to compensate for a lower volume on the head unit. Otherwise all the speakers crackle and the sound is very distorted. So my thinking is that if I had the Mk2 (which only accepts 1v) my problem is about 4 times as big!

Same problem. I would really love to buy MKII but can't afford it right now. I even have the money on the moment but it's reserved for buying a piece of land for building a house. So guess i have to live with my MKI as long as any other aftermarket stereo comes close in the future (what is unlikely to happen, the thing like pioneer unit will not do) :(

You can try it if you want - mk1's have a link internally which sets 1v/4v line-in voltage (labelled 1v/4v on the PCB I think). When set to 1v it's the same as the mk2's line input.

Hugo, you helped me with that a loooong time ago. I have already set the input to 4V. This discussion was about making the switch to the Mark2 unit. I know that the Mk2 unit ONLY accepts 1V input, and if I know that there is already a problem with my Mk1 unit with 4V, I wouldn't even test the Mk2 unit with 1V inputs.

Does the Mk2 unit handle inputs any different than the Mk1? I wouldn't want to hurt the Mk2 unit with pushing too much power to it.
