Any ideas what the boot up time will be? i.e. how long after power input will it be before its playing music. Thanks.

If I can remember reading correctly from the newsletters, they said that their proto-type was about 20 seconds, and that the finished model would be about half of that. I would guess that by the time you put on your seatbelt, and pull out of your driveway, you'll have the tunes crankin'. :)

It's about 15 seconds at the moment, it'll probably stay there until we tweak the kernel more. 15 seconds is really not very long - you get stuff on the display at about 7-8 seconds, but by 15 music is coming out.

I was actually thinking of having a particular sound play every time when the unit starts up...I figure this should be pretty easy. (in this case I thought the mechwarrior "systems, online. weapons, online. all systems nominal." would be neat for a bit until I got tired of it... ;) )

What format do you have the MechWarrior sound file as? Can you send me a copy of whatever format you have?

You can set a particular bootup sound: we're working on getting an animated GIF playing on bootup too, so that you can have it pretty custom (if you're called Michael, you could sample Knight Rider's Kitt, and even do the little LEDs with the voice thing :) )
