Can the RDS time from the tuner module update the system time?

I hope not. The RDS clocks at various radio stations in my area are waaay off. Basically I think these stations just buy an RDS transmitter, plug it in, input their call letters and some slogan, and never touch it again.

Not at the moment. But there was talk of doing so (at the user's request, with the clock visible so you know that the RDS is right - not that I've ever seen the BBC get it wrong, but...).

I have checked my main menu and don't have an option for settings . Do I need to install a differeent kernel to be able to adjust the clock . Sorry if I appear stupid.

He means the main menu on the player screen. Note that if you have a Mk1 player, it does not have a realtime clock, only the Mk2 and Mk2a players have a realtime clock.

What version of the software have you installed on the player?

It is a mark 1 . So I take it I have just got to use the clock on the Radio to get the time . It was one of the first Mark 1 serial no 263.

Heh, that's actually pretty late in the Mk1 production run.

Speaking of which...wasn't there discussion of synching the time on the empeg with the time on your PC when using Emplode? I think I remember hearing that. That'd rule.

OK, how about an option to only sync with the RDS source if it is within 1 minute (or so) of the systems current time?

That would stop setting the wrong time from stations which give incorrect RDS time data (not that I've seen any do so)

Is the current date available from within the RDS data?

Sorry. As you were new to the board, I assumed you had a Mk2

Right, there are a few issues here:

1. Mark 1's have no RTC (realtime clock). Therefore, there's no menu option to set them. There shouldn't really be any way to display the clock on a mark 1, because it's almost certainly bogus.
2. Setting the clock from RDS. Should work on a mk1. Is the tuner on a mk1 good enough to pick up RDS reliably? However, since some stations don't broadcast the correct time, this needs to be configurable. You can't use any magic, like is it <1 hour out from the current time -- mk1's don't have the RTC. Great for the mk2, though.
3. Setting the clock from emplode. Same as #2, but the time won't be wrong. Still won't work on the mk1, though.

Here in Germany the Mk1 tuner has no problem picking up the RDS clock, and reasonably reliably. Well where I'm living anyway. Am I correct in thinking that once it has synchronised the clock over RDS it keeps running by itself? Still keeps running in my underground parking garage anyway, and the radio signal there is pretty weak!!
