I like the concept of the RioReciever, there is no sense in replacing the PC like some other solutions. But I would like TosLink output and onscreen display... does anyone know of any products in the pipeline?

There's Turtle Beach's AudioTron. It doesn't have on-TV display, but it does have TOSlink. Plus, it has a web-server control in addition to front-panel and IR remote controls. And, most importantly, it's shaped like a normal piece of A/V equipment. I haven't actually used one, but I was just thinking of posting to see if anyone had any experience with it. GMTA.

Here's a review on Slashdot.
I've also heard good things about the device from people on the TiVo board.

I had two of them and sold both to someone on this BBS. They were OK. The UI sucked. That's the only problem I had with them.

Well, if so, let's get it out, or at least announced, before Christmas, huh?

I am pretty sure there was a comment about finding some time to take a look at the RioReceiver software towards the end of the year, and perhaps the fact that the car player software is getting some attention, *could* mean the empeg guys have finished doing software for a possible home player ?

How about receiver-like software for the empeg? Great for those people with small drives in the empeg but a huge library on their computers.
I'd be more interested in the opposite of this though.... Using the empeg as a file-server for another ethernet receiver somewhere else. This is already doable with displayserver I suppose, but that requires a web browser, correct?

Mmmmm.... Porn.... I have a friend who might go. His family's in LV and he's really into porn. I'll see if I can convince him to wander over to the non-porn side and look for you guys.
Also totally unrelated, did you notice how CES is after Christmas?

Last year there was no porn section - the automotive section moved to the carpark across the road from the LVCC and sands wasn't used at all.
Damn shame :)

No great loss - the porn section was rubbish. Just a bunch of dirty DVD's and naked girls.

People are always in the mood for new gadgets after Christmas. They get inspired by the crap presents they receive from their friends and relatives, and feel the need to go out and buy something decent with the money rich Aunty Dot gave them.

You're not looking in the right places, then. Here's a good place to start. Also, it looks like AVN has split off from the CES officially, but they still hold a convention in the Sands at the same time as they always have, just under a different umbrella. Weird. I imagine that there were some odd politics going on there.

Perhaps network mp3 software for the Replay series? Wish they weren't so expensive...
