I've just bought an Empeg unit and have a couple of questions.

I'm planing to install Mlords hijack kernel. His web site says to make sure that I'm running the v200b3 release. When I look at emplode it tells me that both the player and emplode are 1.03.

Does the v2 bit refer to "Mark II"? or am I way out of date.

Also, I want to play around with a GPS unit via the com port. I find that when the player software is running it grabs the port for its own use. Is there any way to disable this.

v2.0b3 refers to the player firmware version 2.0 beta 3.

There is a 2.0b3 release for both the Mk1 and the Mk2 players. Why don't you take a stroll through the FAQ at http://www.riocar.org for a while, then get back to us?

v1.03 is the most recent release version of the software. However I suggest trying the 2.0 beta out. It's leaps and bounds above 1.03 and addresses many usability issues (and some bugs.) It does add some bugs of its own but most people are running it with few problems.

Upgrade to 2.0 here.

I had checked out the FAQ, but I didn't make the jump between release and beta software, and their different download pages. Duh.

Hmmm. You have inspired me to update the faq entry just a bit so that it links both the release page and the beta page.

I think the problem was at my end. When I went to the Empeg site I went to support, and then clicked on consumer software without bothering to read any further down the page. From there on, everything was 1.03.

I'm not sure that the FAQ could help, unless it said to read ALL the words on the screen :)
