I know originaly with the empeg size was a major factor to fit everything in there. There was also talk of adding a small amp and cd-rom in a future release. which of course doesnt look to be happening now with the EOL and all.

Is is a mobile computer.

It is for moving and marketing people to connect it easily to a video projector by example.

You could eventually use it for Gps progs and output video to an lcd screen ....


It is a nice computer, but not an automotive oriented product.

Much cheaper at Tiger Direct. Only $499 and all you sacrifice is the 20GB drive for a 10GB one.

EDIT: I just wanted to add something. Making this an in-car GPS nav system would be awsome except for one flaw. It is my impression (from reading reviews) that the fan in this thing is loud. WTF does a machine like this need a 1GHz processor for?

For my personal computer at home, I used to have an Athlon 1.4GHz. However, the fan that these Athlon chips require sound like lawn mowers. Before I got the Athlon, I built a project PC around the Shuttle FV24 and a VIA C3 700MHz processor. The C3 is awesome. It is a modern, fast processor that can run with a heatsink only (no fan). I dumped the Athlon in favor of the C3 and havn't looked back since. Having a quiet computer is much more appealing than you may think.

In the car, having fan noise would get annoying to me. If the cappuccino has a standard Socket370 socket, it should be possible to switch it to C3. This would be the ultimate setup... a very quiet, very small, and very fast computer in the car.

How well does that cpu match up against intel and amd cpus at the same clock speed? I have a amd duron with what is supposed to be a quiet fan, and my hard drives are inside noise dampening enclosures. Its much quieter than it used to be, but I would like to get it even more silent if at all possible.

I'm quite sure the Duron and PIII would wreck the C3 as far as gaming goes. C3 is more on the level as Celeron. However, I have a Duron 750 on my desk at work and they seem about the same speed in business and graphics apps. Photoshop 5.5 actually seems to load quicker on the C3, but my machine has a 7200RPM drive unlike 5400RPM at work. Both have 512MB of PC133 RAM and VIA 686B southbridge on the mobo.

When reading reviews about the chip, you must remeber that there are currently 4 different revisions of the processor. I have the Samuel 2 (rev.3) core, but there is one newer... Ezra (rev.4). Joshua (rev.1) and Samuel (rev.2) really couldn't compete with anything.

The 800MHz C3 Tiger Direct has uses the Ezra core. You can tell because they specify 133MHz bus and .13 micron process. One thing to note about C3 is that it is a direct replacement for Intel parts. This means that as long as your Socket370 board will support an Intel chip at 800MHz, it can use a C3 regardless of what the BIOS posts it as. I think $50 for 800MHz is a good enough deal that you could just buy it to test on a spare Socket370 board.

I have one of those. The fan IS very loud, WAY too loud.

But the unit does have Socket 370, and you can install whatever CPU you like. Not sure if it supports the CPU you mention (I guess the BIOS should be able to recognize it).

I always thought this was neat and I hadn't known that they'd advanced upon the espresso.

I always thought that in some ways, computers like this would be a cool alternative for college students. Plus, you could use it with one of these to be really cool
