The past two mornings I have seen an odd issue. When I start my car, the empeg starts it's normal routine, then once the player loads, the screen goes to the equivelent of 0%. Going to the dimmer settings shows it at my normal daytime setting of 100%, and touching the control to change it instantly corrects the problem. Also, if I turn my headlights on, the display goes to the proper setting there as well.
This is with the 2.0 B3 software.

I think it is something that has been there before it has happened to me with all versions of the software

It's never happened to me exactly as you describe it.
I have a similar but different problem, and I was told it was hardware-related. Sometimes I will start the car while my headlights are on. In this situation, the display will (intermittently) be very very dim during bootup. When the player software kicks in, then the display will revert to the correct brightness.

I get the opposite to Tony. I get my boot logo at 100% brightness, then the player dims. It sometimes comes up too dimly in the office, too.
When this happens, I find that the dimmer control seems to have been scrambled, and there's no relation between the displayed number and the actual brightness.

I had this situation occur again this morning. I still have 2.0 B3 loaded, so I'm not sure if it's due to that, or just a general issue. The one thing that seems to be similar to the last two times it happened is that the player had been in the car overnight, with rather cold weather. The vital signs in hijack v76 showed a reading of -6c.
I have seen the player boot up dim, then correct it's self when the player program starts, and remember Hugos comment on it from the meet. But this seems to be the opposite problem, and could potentially be resolved by resetting the display brightness a few moments after the player program starts, since any time I either turn on my headlights, or go into the dimmer settings, the problem is fixed.

I'm getting this issue also...The player boots into the car mode at 100%, then will dim down a notch when it get to the player. Switching headlights on will bring it back to full (I have both dimmer settings at 100%), and when I adjust the dimmer level, it jumps around, dim, bright, dim, bright as I'm adjusting the level, and when I get it back to 100%, somtimes I have to turn it another click higher for it to be really at 100%. I'm running 2.0b7 with the hijak kernel v92...
Also, when I boot with the AC adaptor, the display boots at 100% and stays there.
I'm going to try loading a stock 2.0b7 and drop it all the way down to 1.03 and report back in a bit.

Ok, here's what I've got with my new player.
1.03, b3 & b7 all have the same dimmer issues I've reported in the previous message. The dimmer setting are not stable.
And now I've found another issue . My new player is not doing as good of a job keeping track of the last position it was at when I turn off the car. It goes into suspend just fine (blinking light, no amp thump), then after 120 seconds(what I had it set to), it powers off the rest of the way(again no thump), but when I powered it back up, it was about 3 songs back from where it was when I turned off the car.
I've got a feeling it's a hardware issue , but I'd just like a bit of confirmation before I get in touch with tech support.
Note: The other player I purchaced doesn't exibit any of these issues.

I just had a glitch when I was going home today. Same issue, empeg booted, screen was fine, then once the player loaded, the dimmer dropped too low. (I had my headlights on.
I went into the dimmer control, and used the left and right buttons this time to try and change it, and got some odd results. Initially it was at 60% like I keep it all the time for the night. So I pressed right once, it jumped to 70% and looked like the right brightness. Pressed left, and the screen showed 60%, but it looked like 0%. Pressing left again put it down to 50%, and the screen brightness was correct. Pressing right again, and the display dropped down to the 0% looking setting, while showing 60%.
I continued to play with it, and it was always right if I went 70% or above, and it randomly worked properly 50% and below. After about 30 clicks with the buttons playing with it, 60% finally showed up at the right brightness.
This is on my new Mark 2a, and I first noticed it on my old Mark 2. I am running 2.0 Beta 7 now. And just to reiterate, I never saw this issue with 1.03.

this has been discussed in a number of threads. i have exactly the same problem, and despite being told it's likely a hardware defect, i'm not convinced. it sure looks like a software issue to me.
